Usually shaving is a bad idea. Microabrasions or tiny cuts in the skin are problematic as you surmised already.

First of all, since we've postponed my bionic dick until first quarter, 2020, I don't need to worry about that right now.

I don't shave my crotch anyway. I remember at age 14 or 15 (late puberty!) hoping and praying for some hair down there and I'll be damned if I'm going to get rid of it.

But a funny story touching on a similar subject. Or at least in retrospect it's kind of funny.

In 1996 I went on a wait list for a vasectomy. I was in the Army and had no choice but to use Army hospital. They figured a 5 month wait. I got deployed. When I got back, a year later, I had to start over on the wait list.

So after waiting two months , I wander over to the hospital. The guy who did vasectomies was a Major (I was a CPT) and we talked and he looked me up and it looked like I had, at best, five months to go.

I was tired of a wife who couldn't take the pill, tired of condoms that strangled my dick or broke, mad at Trojan for not making a Magnum XL Junior (wide but short) somI asked him if he ever had no-shows.

He told me all the time, but I would have to be ready to prep on short notice. I told him no sweat and gave him my phone #.

Two days later, a Wednesday I evaluated, they called at noon and said they'd cut me at 1 pm. I had no razor, I really didn't want to shave my junk in the male latrine with one of those disposable razors they sold at the PX for a dime, so I figured.....how bad can using some of that Nair cream really be?

The answer was REALLY bad.

It took the hair off. It also left my dick, balls, and surrounding area a fiery red. It was sufficiently bright that it could have been used as a navigational aid for commercial airliners cruising at 36,000 feet. We. Are talking red.

When I got there the doc and his two assistants got a big laugh, they only required a very small area on the scrotum to be shaved. They did the procedure anyhow.

I tell people I recall no pain or discomfort at all from the vasectomy. Whether that's because I had no pain or because my entire genital area was on fire for three days, I have no clue.

Lesson learned: when the Nair label says "not for genital use" they are not kidding.

Yes, my doctor gave me the same specific instructions, no manscaping. They handled it.

Good luck

You have my sympathies.

How to cure a headache? Stub your toe on a brick. Headache no problem any more.

Actually I am answering your post because the chemical solution to hair warns against genital use (and facial. underarm and other skin more sensitive than legs) because the caustic chemical works so well, but takes skin along with the hair if given enough time.

The conventional advice on the box is to test on the desired skin area with a very small dab and keep track (with a stopwatch preferably) and figure out how long is long enough and how much is too long.

Imagine how troublesome it would be if some of that stuff got INSIDE a gal!

I've been shaving the whole area for 20+ yrs. My Dr. who has been taking care of my ED problems for years knew that I kept it clean shaven and had no problem with me keeping it that way right up to my surgery, but I was a little more careful not to nick myself just before the surgery. I did not have any problems. I use a good three blade razor and lots of cream. Since I've been shaving for so long I think the skin is tougher then it would be if you have never shaved. I like the look and feel of a clean shaven dick and balls.

Since I am scheduled for an implant in January 202 I called my surgeons nurse today to ask about shaving prior to surgery. I was first alerted to this potential problem on Franktalk so again thank you guys. This is such a good forum with so many good people willing to share their knowledge. I talked with the nurse and she said stop shaving at least two weeks prior to surgery and you will be fine. Wanted to share this info for anyone else facing surgery anytime soon. Thanks again!

How odd that my urologist didn't warn me about shaving, especially when each time he has seen me since June 2019, I've been almost baby-smooth down there. I did have my own reservations about possibly nicking myself or causing a rash or ingrown hair before the surgery, so I held off from shaving the area starting about a week before surgery, thus making for an itchy ride (I've got hair about 1.5" up the shaft, unless I keep it shaved.)

Since my surgery I have been trying to keep the pubes and shaft shaven although my scrotum has getting a bit shaggy and itchy in the past month, especially with the extra stress from the AMS MS pump hanging low (I was implanted through penoscrotal so the pump is very low). I'm trying to hold out on shaving my scrotum until the incision is completely healed.
