Greetings All,
Does anyone know if scar tissue can form capsules around penile implant cylinders? I know it can encapsulate breast implants and constrict them to the point of being firm and even hard. I had a malleable prosthesis for many years and replaced it with a three-piece inflatable device. The malleable prosthesis resulted in a noticeable loss of girth versus my natural anatomy. The inflatable prosthesis improved girth but it is still quite a bit less than my natural anatomy. In reading through this board it seems that many men often retain their natural girth and in some cases even gain a bit more. Based on my own experiences having adequate girth is more important to me than length. I've considered inflating my prosthesis on a regular basis to see if this helps, but it requires self-discipline and time. And, after so many years it might not help much. On a different note at what length is a penis considered short? At what girth/circumference is it considered thin? Last, has anyone had excess shaft skin bunch up behind the glans after surgery due to having less length and/or girth? Having loose shaft skin seems to compromise erectile quality.
Regards,
Gene

Re: Does scar tissue limit inflatable cylinder expansion?
Hello Gene,
Scar tissue does form around the cylinders. I pump mine up to absolute maximum at least twice a day. When i first started doing this, I was disappointed because I saw thick girth at the base and an almost pointed or arrowhead shaped penis ( the shave got narrower as it progressed to the tip). I've had my implant for exactly 1 year this month. After about 10 months, the girth has expanded quite a lot along the full length and it no longer has the tapering effect.
Also, it used to hurt when I pumped it up tight and I could only keep it that way for a couple of minutes. Now it doesn't hurt when pumped up fully and I can leave it that way for a very long time. I THINK that the healing process takes a long time, and the daily pumping forces the tissue to stretch and accommodate the size. The pain was likely caused by the stretching. Now that it's stretched out... No more pain... that's my theory anyway.
Also, you should (in my opinion) fully inflate the device on a regular basis to prevent the tissue from shrinking and tightening around the deflated device.
Regarding size... If it works for you and your partner, then it's the perfect size.

Futher to what hard drive said, my doc at the 7 month visit discussed this topic with me and he pointed out the scar tissue does form around the resevoir as well so pumping or cycling during the break in period keeps the resevoir to function properly as well. I think you can assume that scar tissue has formed around where the old implant was and this, I think, may take some time to strech so you can get the full effect of the new implant. Again I am just speculating but the loose skin shouldn't be where on a properly sized implant, my shaft gets streched out fully during inflation. It might take a while for this to be streched assuming you got an LGX which can "grow" as you strech your natural parts. Good luck with your new implant, it should give you a more natural feel than the constant woodie you have had for the last years.

Re: Does scar tissue limit inflatable cylinder expansion?
Decided to resurrect this from 2011, esp. as a reminder that scar tissue can form if you don't 'exercise' the pump and rods.
Anyone have any suggestions on when to pump for a few minutes per day? Do it while dressing, right after you get up, etc...?
What was said by HardDrive about pumping daily, at least to minimize the forming of scar tissue is esp. true, I learned this when I had my knee scoped and the therapist actually spent a few minutes rubbing the area where my scar was, and hurt, but he said it was necessary to prevent scar tissue from forming.

Re: Does scar tissue limit inflatable cylinder expansion?
I fully pump up during my morning shower, during at least one restroom break at work, one or two times after I get home, then finally once more before I go to bed. Basically, if I've got my dick in my hands, I'll inflate it to max than deflate it. Each time I cycle it, I also will remodel the up-turned bend as well (bending it down).
