I've seen so many positive reports of implantation here, it has really taken the edge off of my own ED, which is managing well enough for now with minimal Cialis (2.5 mg EOD). I'm relatively young (43), and have no illusions about my future, despite trying to take better care of myself now (went from 60 pounds overweight/obese to a mere 2-3 pounds overweight since my first "incident" close to two years ago -- amazing what an incentive the loss of erections can give a man).

Anyway, things look pretty bright for you bionic bros, but I do worry about the worst case scenario -- attempts to cure ED with implants that end up resulting in the permanent loss of a man's ability to get an erection.

How often does this actually happen? I've read that 90% of men are satisfied with their implants -- at least at the time they are asked -- so is it 10% of the time? 1%? Exceedingly rare?

Right now the biggest thing I fear in this arena is the years leading up to getting an implant, having to endure the loss of spontaneous sex inherent to needing injections, fumbling with pumps, etc. feeling like complete shit in the months or even years leading up to getting the damn thing done. But a close second is getting the surgery done and running into one complication after another that ends up resulting in "welcome to your new life" and "adjusting to Sex 2.0" therapy sessions.

From all the reading and research I've done, almost all of it on this site, the key is in getting a GOOD surgeon. There are horror stories on here of botched jobs and doctors that aren't responsive to their patients. My surgeon is one of the top recommended ones on this board and he does a lot of revisions for various reasons, but one of those reasons would be a botched job.

Other than that, I think the satisfaction rate is very high. You can get used to shots too. I know it's not 100% spontaneous but it beats nothing. I gave up spontaneous for scheduled sex a long, long time ago. Still doesn't mean it isn't good.

My understanding is that when the cylinders are inserted into the penis, the normal erectile tissue is permanently damaged and will never work again (glans engorgement is a separate process that the man may or may not have). I sometimes share that in some ways an implant erection is better than a natural one because I can always have an erection. I don't have to worry about stress or being nervous or being tired keeping me from having an erection. And, the erection will last as long as I want it to. I can climax and then have the erection still there to pleasure my wife/partner as long as I like to. My wife shares that the implant erection looks completely natural and feels completely natural to her body. Just my two cents' worth.

Jonbald, do u actually know what percent of "bad" implants there are? In my research, it appears to be an extremely low number. Given the cost of malpractice insurance, I would think a bad surgeon would be quickly barred from performing future surgeries. I'm just saying that absent any statistics to the contrary, my understanding is the vast majority of procedures go off flawlessly. But if I'm wrong, please cite youre source. Thanks.

Jonbald, after googling on the subjects of penile implants performed annually & malpractice lawsuits, it looks like in the USA, there's about 2 cases filed annually . . . https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25070914 ... vs. about 40-50,000 implants performed annually. I know for back & spinal surgeries, baby deliveries & some other areas, the doctors get sued left & right. I could be wrong, but I just don't think there's a lot of malpractice going on with penile implants. But I could be wrong, so if you or someone has evidence to that effect, please point to it. Sounds promising, but don't forget that lots of men would be too embarrassed to open up and have a lawsuit over their implant. I am sure that some just suffer in silence -- that is, after all, what lots of guys with ED do.

If you use a surgeon that does 500+ cases a year, your chances of problems are significantly diminished.
The key is experience. Don't use someone that does a "few" now and then.
