Decision Time

Postby bummedout » Mon Sep 05, 2016 6:24 pm

Ok, I've been reading posts on this site over the past year and now is the time for me to make a decision. I'm 36 years old and I've had peyronie's disease for the past 8 years. It's caused waisting, slight curvature, pain, and a major venous leakage which causes my ED. The thing that causes me the most concern at this point is that whenever I actually do have successful sex, it feels like it gets a little worse each time. I don't seem to be a good candidate for Xiaflex according to my doctor, and I've been on all the oral treatments already, so it seems as if the only real option at this point is the implant, and needless to say I'm very trepidatious about going through with it. I already visited Garber in Philly, but I kind of chickened out after the appointment. I really don't want to regret doing this once I do it. What are the things that they don't tell you beforehand that you find out afterwards? Can I still be as active as I want? Can I overuse it? Is there a model implant that lasts longer than others or is better than? How is flying? Basically, how does one really come to the conclusion to make this life changing decision, especially at my age? I know some of the answers may be in this discussion board already, but any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not to be unhelpful, but your questions have been discussed here repeatedly and there's very little that can be said that hasn't already been revisited dozens of times. Your best bet is to use the forum search function, trying various key words of interest, and look at the results. The information is here.

Yeah, that's what I expected to hear. I just feel like when I read things on here I get even more confused. I'm not sure what I was expecting. Thanks anyway.

bummedout,
First thing is to find a specialist in peyronie's modeling (scar tissue removal) prior to Implant placement.

- Can you be as active = of course you can and more ...
- Can you over use it = NO! ... once you heal up ... go as many times as you want ...
- Does one model (brand) last longer = no ... either model will generally outlast the patient ...
- Flying - no issues with a body scan or altitude, MRI's are safe, etc.
- How does one really come to the conclusion = in your condition there is no more options ... the longer you wait the more scar tissue builds up, and the less satisfactory a Implant will be ...

Understand the totality of Franktalk can be a little overwhelming. Try looking at "journeys" posted by some members. Particularly good ones are by Merrix, dirtman, Pockie, Cincinnatus and c_lab35. They put people's implant reasons, decisions, surgeon choice and recovery into a timeline. This might help

I also waited over a year after learning and wish I had done earlier. Looked at Garber, Eid, and Kramer. After reading I decided on Dr. Kramer as I read one post that Dr. Garber has a bedside manner that wasn't the best. Dr. Eid was in NY and I didn't want to go to NY and or course staying there was a factor. Watched a lot of Dr. Kramers videos and started contacting him. Very helpful, emailed a lot of answers to questions and we also spoke before I decided.

I have never regretted it and I still reach out to him for answers. One person here made a comment I have never forgotten. This man was a doctor and explained why he selected Dr. Kramer. He said to "Watch his Hands" which told him Dr. Kramer was very good.

Take the time and be well
Implanted March 2nd by Dr. Kramer with AMS/LGX. Had a problem lower left (scar tissue) and he placed a larger (thicker) implant as you can here on the YouTube video. Got all back, ED over 10 years before Implant.

Ok thanks guys, I'll do some more research and think some more.

Bionic-by-AMS, when you say that either model will outlive the patient, I'm assuming you mean older guys right? It would be great to think that I'd only need one or two implants over my lifetime, but it seems like I'd be in for a lot more.

Thanks Marlo, I'd go to Garber mainly cause he's closest but I guess that's not a very good reason.

bummedout,
I had my Implant 4 yrs. now at age 60, I asked my surgeon how long it would last ... his reply was that it would out live me. Even at your age ... if a replacement was needed, by then most likely a Implant will be quite different than the models used now ...

Personally I wouldn't hesitate to get a replacement ... the benefits of a active sex life surely out way the discomfort of a few days/weeks.

I've had 4 implant surgeries Eid, Kramer, Cornel all, three botched me so bad it was dreadful. Dr. Rafael Carrion removed everything and installed a Coloplast OTR last May and I cannot say enough about him. A true professional. Sorr, I hit the submit button by mistake and completed post below. How do I delete this one?
