Considering became Bionic

Postby Gonzalez » Mon May 11, 2015 12:09 pm

New to forum, I am 48, experienced ED since long time ago managed to have children, started taken Viagra about 20 years ago until the point did not work, switched to Cialis, this has been working but caused terrible heartburn for 2o r 3 days after taking the pill, about 5 years ago started injection therapy and still taken sometimes Cialis no together. My problem is I can start erection with stimulation but does not last to complete sexual intercourse, gets flaccid very quick, today for the dosis my doctor gave me for injection is not working any more, I have to increase it and inject in both sides which at the end , my penis feels the effect of this and I have pain for the next 24 hours. 2 years ago I had hernia repair surgery (inguinal), since then I am experiencing, pain or discomfort on the left side on my groin and testicle, I am not sure if this worsening my condition but most likely looks like it is. I am now considering penile implant, but like everybody I am worried about the loss of length, I read that after the surgery the size when inflated is about the same when penis is stretched, I have 16.5 Cms doing this, so I am not sure what brand, kind of implant should I consider, also I am having no spontaneous but with stimulation erections which are not 100% firm but feels good. For me no more morning erections unless took cialis but again with terrible heartburn. I live in Western Canada, in Edmonton Alberta, this surgery is covered by Alberta Health Care, I am not sure which surgeon/Urologist I am being referred, do not know which one in Alberta Canada have good reputation with this kind of surgery. Based on all my information I am asking for advise. Thank you.

Your journey is similar to most of the brothers here who have implants. First the pills, then the vacuum pump and/or injections until all that stops working or has negative side effects...

As far as loss of length, that's a possibility but one that has been significantly reduced if one embarks on the vacuum pump therapy beforehand. You're lucky that your insurance will cover the cost. That written, if you decide to have the surgery don't go with just any doctor. Do some research and shop around. Choose an experienced doctor who will listen to you, take the time to answer your questions, etc. If you decide to have the surgery, be absolutely sure. This is one of those deals that once you have the surgery there's no turning back.

I'm on my third implant in four years. This most recent one seems to be the keeper but it was hardly a smooth ride to get to my desired destination. Fortunately, my health insurance (via employer) covered all three operations. If not I would have paid at least 60 grand by now.

Thank you for your response, having natural spontaneous erections even with estimulation can keep me away from going ahead with the implant, even knowing this erections are not enough to have and complete sexual intercourse, I can still using injection therapy but… since I already increased the dosis I know if continuing doing this can result in permanent damage and worsen side effects. I contacted Coloplast Canada, this is the company makes the Coloplast Titan, I was told an Urologist in Calgary Alberta, Dr Lee uses and is very familiar with implanting this product, I am looking to be referred to him to have a conversation, this probably will happen in 6 months to 1 year because the way the Health System works here, this will give me time to search more about this.

There are a couple people on this board from Canada. I remember that there is a long wait to get implanted there. Search this site, there is a lot of info. My advice to you is try to get a consultation appt asap

After ten years of dealing with my ED including trying every new product that was guaranteed to resolve the problem I decided to go for broke and get the implant (6/1/15). What is odd or funny is that the insurance (Cigna, VA, and supplement insurance would not pay for any drugs or remedies, but they are willing to pay for the operation. go figure.
When I told my best friend about the implant he said he wanted one also but was afraid he may be too small. I asked him what size was he and he said full erection length just shy of 3 inches and about inch and half girth. Does anyone know what the smallest implant size can work for my friend?

I believe your friend would have no issue as the corpora that the cylinders go in are longer than stretched length as some of the length is inside the body and not visible and the cylinders at least on AMS 700 come as short as 12 cm which is about 5 inches. Not sure if he is describing girth or diameter but would have your friend call a high volume surgeon to discuss his situation. I think length and likely girth wont be an issue. My doc Dr Andrew Kramer in Baltimore was available to answer questions like that by phone before I made the decision to use him or have an implant. Im sure other docs and the FAQ sections of their websites will help him as well.
66 year old with ED intermittently for years and consistently for the 2 years before implant. Tried everything. AMS CX 21cm+1 cm RTEs Dr Kramer 4/29/2015.
Revision 5/3/2021 AMS CX 700 21cm+2 cm RTEs.
Revision 2022 Titan XL 24 cm no RTEs.
