Drainage concern

Postby 3rdrevisiondecision » Sat Nov 07, 2026 9:17 pm

Hello all.

I’m one of the folks that got implanted in their 20’s (venous leak) and now am 40. I’ve had 2 revisions, with the most recent done by a high volume surgeon in the Midwest. Mechanical failure both times. This time the surgeon said I “bled more” and required a drain.

I’m 8 weeks from my latest revision and have been evaluated and cleared.
I have a mass that feels like it’s below the incision line- it’s sore to the touch. While the incision line is closed, it did open very briefly with what I thought was pus (white) and a small amount of fluid- but the drainage stopped after a 30 minutes. It bled for a bit out of left side (above the pump). Naturally, I freaked out . But for 24 hours, it’s stopped.

I sent to my surgeon who didn’t ask me to come in and said that it’s likely some collection of fluid trying to get out and he put me back on Cipro as an anti biotic. There is no tissue breakdown or major redness (the area is red). Meanwhile I’m still struggling to wear jeans and have a mass that’s decently sized that’s firm and sore to touch. It makes it annoying to touch the pump as well. Tissues still feel sore from activity.

Has anyone ever seen this? Should I be worried or is this just normal healing?
