Is it common to add centimeters during a revision surgery?
I had an AMS 700 for about 10 years. It worked pretty well overall, but it was never as firm or rigid as I wanted, so I recently switched to a Coloplast Titan.
Before surgery, I told my surgeon at UCSF in San Francisco that I really didn’t want to go any smaller. I had a 23 cm implant and expected to stay the same or maybe go up to 24 cm at most. I ended up with 26 cm. Not complaining.
I’m now about five weeks into recovery from the revision, and when I’m flaccid it feels like the cylinders kind of “zig-zag.” When fully inflated, everything looks and feels great.
So my main question is: is it typical to end up with a longer implant during a revision? Both of my surgeons are excellent, so I’m not concerned about any kind of error. I’m just wondering if things naturally expand over time or if that’s part of the revision process.
Also, for anyone who’s had a Titan—does the flaccid feel and appearance improve as you heal and get used to it? Right now it feels pretty different. I feel like I may never wear a Speedo or go to a nude beach again, but I’m hoping that changes as things settle over time.
