I'm scared of getting my implant next week

Postby macoza » Mon Dec 29, 2025 12:13 pm

HI everyone... I'm scheduled for surgery next week and I'm very very very scared. A part of me wants to do it but another part of me doesn't. Can you guys give me some encouragement and share your experiences before getting your implant?

It's normal to be anxious, scared, and nervous before any surgery. My implant at 68 years old was my first ever surgery, don't think I got any sleep the two nights prior. Once I made it to the facility everyone was so nice they eased my nervousness, things went smoothly and I woke up bionic. All the years missing out on sex made me feel like I wasted time.
Best of luck. Post your results.

I was scared too before my implant surgery back in 2021. Who wouldn't be at least a little bit nervous before going through with such a procedure? For encouragement, I would advice you to look at the results: all studies I have seen have indicated that a very high percentage of implantees are happy with the result. Anecdotally, many suffer from a sense of "buyers' remorse" right after the surgery, when things are still sore and they haven't gotten to use the implant yet. But a few months down the road, the great majority seem to enjoy their new erection-on-demand and be glad they had the courage to go through with surgery.

As for myself, even though my implant recently failed and I will now have to have it replaced, my only regret is that I didn't get an implant earlier. I wish I had gotten it when my ED had progressed to such a level that not even the injections gave me a satisfactory erection. For me, that would have meant getting the implant in my mid-forties, rather than waiting till my mid-fifties.

Since you are scheduled for surgery, I assume you have pretty bad ED and that you have tried pills and injections, and that they don't work well for you, or you are not happy using them. (I grew to hate the injections.) If that is the case, and if you have a high-volume surgeon that you trust, then you probably want to just go ahead with, get it done, and then be conscientious about following your doctor's instructions during the healing period. Chances are that six months from now, you'll be very happy that you did.

Greatly appreciate the feedback, brother. So you mention waiting months after the implant before I can use it. But since I'm getting the implant next week, I'll need to use it to have sex with my gf by this April. I'd want to use it as soon as possible after the surgery. My surgeon informed me that I can have sex a month after the surgery. In that case, I can't wait many months as you described.

Btw, I had PRP done last week. As a result, I have experienced morning wood. But I'm not at the point where I can have sex on demand. Despite this, I think I'd still need an implant.

My only gripe with surgery is if the implant fails or I get infection after the surgery. That'll be a nightmare for me.

Looking forward to your words on what you think of this, brother.

I didn’t mean that you have to wait several months after the procedure before starting to have sex. I had sex for the first time three and a half weeks after getting the implant. But the first few months, it was often somewhat painful for me to have sex, so I didn’t always enjoy it as much as I had hoped. But the pain gradually went away, and that’s when I really started enjoying my new sex life. Guys clearly differ in how much discomfort they have early on, but I think my experience is fairly typical.

As for the risk of getting an infection after the surgery: yes, unfortunately that does happen. You might want to ask your surgeon what his rate of infections is. And you can probably do your part in minimizing the risk by conscientiously following your doctor’s instructions after the surgery.
