Day 1 of the Rest of My Life!

Postby vincentarpino » Wed Nov 05, 2025 4:01 pm

Hi All:

So, I'm back home after my overnight stay from being implanted yesterday. It really was, so far, a breeze. I made everyone in the OR laugh when I said it may be Election Day for you, but it's Erection Day for me!

I had a pretty peaceful night and this morning, bright and early, my surgeon's fellow came in, took a look, removed the catheter (while I listened to Rage Against The Machine in my earbuds because I HATE this part) AND removed my bandages. He also showed me where the pump is located. It was bigger than I expected. Funny story: when I saw my surgeon prior to the surgery, he asked me where I wanted the pump placed. On the right, left or down the middle. I told him I couldn't remember this coming up in discussion on this board or on YouTube. I looked at my wife who was also a little perplexed. I tried to picture it and then fingered it...I said go straight down the middle with a fast ball...no split fingered or curve balls. Being that he's Egyptian, I don't think he got the joke. But, it's sitting right now the middle.

One thing that would have horrified me if it were not for all of you Bionics on here, is how absolutely small my penis looks. My surgeon explained to me that's because of so much swelling, it's hanging out more in the fat pad portion of the implant, as well as the reaction to the catheter and the trauma of surgery. He told me that he fitted me with a 15.2 cm with a 2 cm rte. He was very pleased that I knew so much and that I had spent the past frustrating year doing research. Another funny moment: I kept referring to the 15 and he got this horrified look on his face and at one point said: "You know that's centimeters NOT inches!" I said: "Doc, if I meant inches, I'd be leaving here and going straight to Lake Erie to go fishing with it!" :D

Thank you to many of you who shared your set-ups with underwear, icing, etc. Special shoutout to Goodwood for sharing a pic of his jock strap/boxer briefs contraption. I'm doing that right now. I can always trust a fellow New Yorker!

So, he did not inflate me; it's not his preference, but he did test it in the OR. He told me what to expect and I'm comfortable with that. He did make a small incision for the reservoir in my lower abdomen. He did this out of extreme caution because I've had Stage 4 metastatic colon cancer twice in my liver and I've had two surgeries that went through the abdomen. He wanted to be certain that there was no scar tissue as that would be bad. BTW, I've survived cancer three times now in the past five years, 12 rounds of chemo in 2024, which all attributed to my having severe ED and hard/flaccid syndrome. So, this is my gift to myself. And my wife. And however else it gets used.

No pics today. But I'll post some as it heals.

A word about my doctor. He is a urologist and surgeon at one of the best cancer institutes in the world which happens to be located in Buffalo, NY. Yes, I could've travelled to go see Dr. Clavell, etc....but there is something to be said for having THE BEST of THE BEST in cancer treatment all in one building.

Thank you again for all of your support! Now I can fill out my full bio profile.

Fantastic, glad things are going well. Don't get too complacent though...Once all the nerve blocks wear off you might find you're in more pain than you think! (ask me how I know this...) Keep ahead of it with pain meds, if you wait too long and "chase the pain" you'll never be comfortable.

Keep us updated as you progress! Congrats again on Erection Day!

Congrats Vincent.
Sucks that you went through so much.

Now.

Fill a pillow case up with as much cushion you can get in it and prop your feet up with some ice. Use pillow cases under the ice to protect your skin.

Take a nap and dream.

Thanks! Ha!' You got that right! Came home, ate and did about two hours work on the phone and laptop. And was exhausted! I used all if the fancy ice packs I still have from my chemo days. They worked well but in quite a bit of pain tonight in places I didn't expect them. And not in places I did expect them. They never gave me a nerve block...just pain meds when I went in and morphine and lortabs/Tylenol last night. I didn't want anything addictive prescribed, so, sticking with Tylenol and medical grade marijuana. Took my first shower tonight. That was interesting.

I think perhaps a mistake I made was once the bandages were off, I did take two walks around the hospital floor with just tge tight "panties" they gave me. I think I'm paying for that and little bit tonight.

Tomorrow is another day. But, ElbowRoom is right. Don't get too cocky (pun intended).
