I’ve been reading this forum in the run-up to getting my implant on the NHS. It’s been super informative and reassuring, so thanks y'all.
A bit of background. I first realised I had ED around age 20, with no idea of the cause. For the next 20 years, I repeatedly embarrassed myself in front of various chicas with my limp dick in hand. Eventually went to the GP, but got fobbed off with pills - no success. I pushed for a referral on the NHS and was prescribed injections - again, no success. At that point I decided I had nothing to lose and the implant was the only way forward.
It took about a year and a half to get to the point of being scheduled for the operation, which I finally had done last week.
In the week before surgery, I came down with a cold; sore throat, blocked nose, the works. I didn’t want to postpone, but in hindsight I probably should have. Immediately post-op my throat was super f'd, I couldn’t breathe properly through my nose, and I lost a lot of sleep coughing. Recovery would’ve been easier if I’d waited until fully better.
After surgery, although it was expected I was surprised to find tubes hanging out of me. One catheter, one drain collecting what looked like blood from my ball sack (penoscrotal approach, I assume). I didn’t move much because I was afraid of getting my legs tangled in the tubes and ripping something out. But that was a huge mistake. Three days of lying in bed left me with bedsores all down my back and crack (mostly healed now). The catheter handled the pee, but the food I was eating was solidfying into a boulder.
I was kept in hospital three days and three nights (sounds biblical). I believe the implant was partially or fully inflated at first, hard to tell as it was standing proud wrapped like a mummy. On day three, the wrapping was removed and the doctor deflated it. That was one of the most unpleasent experiences apart from the tubes being removed. The deflate button isn’t easy to access, but when it was done, I felt a release of pressure in my dick which releived some pain.
I was expected to pee before being discharged, but the real killer was emptying the bowels. I definitely reccommend taking a laxative as it felt like giving birth to a uruk-hai.
It’s been about a week now. I’m confused about whether I’m fully or partially deflated or if it has auto-inflated. The deflate button is high up in my balls and faced towards the rear, so I'm struggling to reach it even after tugging on it. Hoping this loosens up with time. I'll find out whether there's any issues at my next appointment scheduled in a few weeks.
Right now it feels like having four McDonald’s straws in there (the old plastic kind, not the bamboo paper ones). When I bend it up, it bends like straws with indents. If I leave it in its natural position, it sticks straight out at 90 degrees, which is proving difficult to conceal in my clothes at the moment.
Size-wise, it’s smaller than before, but I know from what I've read on here the true size won’t show until 6 -12 months with healing, cycling, and perito exercises. Still wondering about how big it can really get. It’s a 20cm Titan, no RTEs. I heard the rule of thumb is 1/3 internal, 2/3 external, so about 5.25"?. But I also read each tube has 5cm non-inflatable, which would mean a max of 5.9". According to chatgpt it can resch 7 - 7.5". Anyone have insight on this?
Mixed emotions right now. Still healing. Still getting throbbing, dull pain, and the occasional sharp pain through balls and shaft. But I hope it will all be worth it in the end.
Sorry about the rant just needed to get this down on paper.
Will.update once I've put it to use.

Uruk-hai, first congrats on taking the big step and welcome to the bionic brotherhood ! A lot of what you described sounds similar to other guys' experiences. I had an unusually rough recovery and didn't start cycling until almost 8 weeks -- so you may be healing a lot faster than I did. Once the swelling goes down its a lot easier to manipulate the pump. When I deflate I use two fingers pressing towards each other, one on each side of the pump. So the position of the deflate button wouldn't make that much difference to me. Hang in there and best wishes !

Hi,
I've got my implant on NHS this week at UCLH. Which hospital did you get it done and which Dr was it?
I've been told it's one night stay for me, surprised it was three nights for you, is that normal or was your case different?
I'll be getting the AMS LGX as I was worried about loss of size, but I hear it's mostly a gimmick rather than anything else.
Hope it goes well for you

Re: NHS Surgery - 2025
I had my first, unsuccessful, implantation on the NHS in April 2023, at MRI, and a full revision by the MRI team, but at Trafford, last week.
If I can answer any questions I'd be happy to.

Onset of ED at age 46, no erection since, pills, VED , Injections, no luck, not even once.
Implanted 19.04.2023 in UK, with Rigicon Infla 10 AX, not functioning.
Had revision 24/09/25 Rigicon removed and AMS700 implanted.

Hi, thanks for that,
Wanted to ask how long did you stay in hospital?
I've been told my surgery will be an overnight visit and I will be good to be leave the following morning.
I live an hr away so will be getting a cab.
How long for the second visit?, I'm debating getting a hotel room if the second appointment is the following day after discharge. Instead of spending £150 in cabs.
Finally when were you ok to drive? (Automatic car if that changes anything)

Re: NHS Surgery - 2025
Hi, both surgeries were a single night in hospital (Wednesday night), more because of the general anaesthetic than anything else, I think.
The return visit 2 days after (Friday Afternoon), was a 30 minute clinic appointment to deflate the implant, remove the vacuum drain and check the wound, and show you how to apply traction to the pump to stop it creeping out of position
Being able to drive is a matter of personal responsibility versus how painful and swollen your penis and testicles are post surgery, I think that it took me a week or ten days, first time around, 3 days after the revision.
After any surgey or general anaesthetic I have always been asked who is going to be looking after me, in case of any post-op complications, and they may not like the idea of you going to a hotel on your own with nobody keeping tabs on you, I would discuss that before making my plans if I were you, do you not have a friend who can drive you or at least come along to help out?
By the time you have paid for a room plus food etc, will you actually save anything?
