Smoking, nicotine?

Postby fucked0ne » Mon Jul 21, 2025 1:38 pm

Does anyone here smoke or use nicotine products? I just read a recent article that nicotine acts as an immunosuppressant (to what extent it did not mention, though, according to Google, nowhere near the degree of Prednisone), and I was wondering if anyone who consumes nicotine recreationally has ever experienced any problems with the implant, i.e., infection or whatever.

No, I don’t smoke, but I am interested in micro dosing isolated nicotine via Rugby patch for alleged psychotropic benefits.

Thanks!

Tons of studies have shown that nicotine is detrimental to the vascular and tied to increased risk of infection.

Whether that outweighs whatever benefits you think micro dosing will get you, you’ll have to sort out.

But the negative effects are well documented.

It’s confusing because the method of delivery utilized in those studies is usually smoking, vaping, snuff, which contain a multiplicity of chemicals, including formaldehyde, and are indeed all bad. Isolated nicotine does have a vasoconstrictive effect, but this effect is transient and dose dependent. Sudafed is likewise a vasoconstrictor.

I appreciate the response, GoodWood, but I’m interested in hearing from those who currently use nicotine products.

Hey.
I use nicotine. Currently the pouches (Zyn). I vaped for like 10 yrs then went to Zyn nicotine pouches like 4 yrs ago. I didn't have any extra issues with infection & surgeon didn't seem concerned that I used nicotine preparing me for surgery. No extra precautions were taken & I had one in lip I took out right before induction & put one in as soon as I woke up lol

To the best of my knowledge, there's no extra concerns with infection or healing when using nic. There are surely downsides with chronic nicotine use but it is what it is

Thanks, buddy! This is exactly the kind of response I was looking for.

I vape and smoke a cigar once a day.
When you smoke, your vessels contract and the little ones stop bringing blood. So for the healing it's not the best to smoke while healing.
I saw a video on youtube where dr told to his patients to stop smoking on month previous and one month after the implant to reduce infection rates. (you can vape)
A patch is far less aggressive than a sigaret so don't think it will be a problem.

Cool! Yeah, that’s what I plan on going with, the patches.

I smoked for years and believe that's what led to needing the implant. I kept smoking after my implant and was sore for months. Then finally quit and a few months later ended up with bladder cancer. If you use tobacco, my advice is quit sooner than later.

Greetings, long time since I paid a visit here.

I was an active smoker when I had my Implant installed. I healed fine.

Years later, I still vape and use Zyn on occasion when I can't hit the vape, no issues (yet).

But like everyone else has mentioned, nothing good comes from the habit. G luck man.
