When is it safe to start cycling?

Postby Jsmith194589 » Wed Jul 16, 2025 2:27 am

Hey everyone

I’m just wondering when it’s actually safe to start cycling the implant. I’m 8 days post-surgery and feeling pretty good overall. It’s still a bit uncomfortable to touch the shaft, but there’s no pain at all around my testicles or anywhere else.

Is it safe to start cycling this early, and does starting sooner help with regaining size? I’ve heard some guys start as early as 3 days post-op, while others wait until week 4 to 6 when they feel more comfortable.

Just keen to hear your experiences and any advice.

Welcome to the wonderful community of Bionic brothers!

Recovery is different for everyone, but to start cycling better in 4-6 weeks, some doctors allow activation of your implant earlier and have their own protocols.
Did your doc give you anything re recovery and activation of the implant ?
When do you have a follow-up visit with him?
Best

Ask your surgeon, there is a variance in protocols.

Many like Dr. Clavell leave patients 60-75% inflated and don't want them to try cycling it for 6 weeks. Dr. Hakky leaves patients minimally inflated, and then has them start cycling after 5 days.

All roads can lead to the same place of success, but you don't want to mess up your doctor's treatment plan. So best to let the doc know you feel good and would like to cycle and see what they say.

I partially cycled at 6 hours post-op, with both catheter and drain still in. I just wanted to test the pump. I spoke to my surgeon the next morning when I went in to get the drain removed. Told him I only partially cycled because I didn't want to pop a stitch. He said there's little risk of damage due to cycling early, but didn't recommend it due to the pain and swelling in the scrotum from pumping. I've been fully cycling twice daily since 30 hours post-op. My healing has been fast with no chance of scar tissue forming. First sex was at 8 days, 2nd at 11 days, 3rd, 4th, and 5th at day 16. All were awesome. Now at day 18, I'm 90% healed and can cycle with no pain.

Dr. Clavell recommends holding off 3 weeks because he doesn't want the pain from early cycling to deter you from cycling past 3 weeks, when real scar tissue could form. Other high volume surgeons (Dr. Eid) recommend cycling at 3 days for their patience who can handle it.

Everybody heals differently and react to pain differently. You do what works best for you. Many guys on this blog have other health issues, and by reading many of the comments, don't tolerate pain well.

Junk098,
Wow, I think you are the best in our club!
6 hours postop cycling with catheter and drain, awesome, really!
Sex at day 8th and 3 times sex on day 16th, also really apparently the best here!

On which day postop did you have 10 chicks in a row?

Hey man. Congrats on a successful surgery. My doctor activated me at my 4 week checkup & cleared me to begin cycling then.
I recall being somewhat swollen the next day from him demonstrating the cycling process & deflating me, so I waited another day or 2 before I could pump myself & importantly, locate the deflate valve. It was a relief to be deflated after having a semi hardon for a month. It was quite visible in clothing too.
Also was cleared to resume normal activity at the gym at that time. I had been doing higher rep stuff & mild cardio since 7 days post op. I also have a manual labor type job & was working 5 days post op.

That's my experience but my recommendation would be following surgeons advice. It seems like most all get the same outcome so that's the safest bet

Must follow docs orders.
I had scrotoplasty with my implant. At pre op doc said it may delay starting to cycle but post op instructions called for three days after and sex at three weeks so that is what I did.
I’ve read six weeks for many doctors.

As most have said it really depends on the Dr and what exactly they did while doing the implant. Best course of action ask your Dr when they think it'll be ok. The swelling is going to make it difficult to even think of pumping especially since everything will still be very tender.

Welcome to the bionic brotherhood Jsmith :). Like others have said I think it's very important to go with your own doctor's advice. Your signature lists Dr Chris Love, who afaik is the highest volume implant surgeon here in Australia. He didn't do my surgery but some members here have had their implants done by him. If you search on his name there may be some discussion about what protocols he normally uses. But I'm assuming his office could provide you with the information?

For my own experience my surgeon leaves everyone around 30% inflated for the first 6 weeks. That doesn't sound much but it was pretty much a raging boner 24/7, if a bit undersized at that stage. Quite uncomfortable during that time and difficult to stow. I was activated by the doc at 6 weeks (deflated then fully inflated), which was very painful. He advised me to start cycling at least twice a day for about 10 minutes, and to bend the penis in all four directions as much as I could tolerate (similar to Perito "The Exercise"). Since then I've aimed for 3 cycling sessions daily as often as circumstances allow, with a really long one during the day of up to an hour (I'm retired and work is no longer an issue). I now can inflate to maximum with very little discomfort, even for long periods of either cycling or sex (and loving it :D). In fact I now inflate as hard as I can get it, then attempt to inflate further at intervals, with the end game to maximise whatever size gains I might finally achieve.

Recovery going well.
