Standard lifespan of Implant = 1000 uses?

I read on the manufacture’s website that the standard AMS implant’s lifespan is 1000 uses. That means the implant will last for 5 years if you inflate it twice a week on average. With that said, many people cycle it several times a week. Wouldn't that cut short the implant lifespan drastically?

That seems a low number...it makes me wonder if they are managing expectations by stating a number of cycles they know 99.9% of implants will make with no problem, so that the majority of patients are thrilled when they get 2000, 3000, 5000 or more uses from it and don't complain.

Your math is off here. Inflating 2X per week is about 100 times a year, i would take almost 10 years to get to 1000.

Ok, I use my dick at least 3 times a day since nearly 1,5 years, so it makes 1050 uses per year, so the implant should have broken already????

I spoke to a BSC patient rep (post-op) yesterday who said that the 1,000 uses claim is "engineering speak". However the term "engineering speak" doesn't seem to apply in this situation. At first she was surprised that info is still on their website. She seemed anxious to discredit the "1,000 uses" statement and chose to redirect to their data that indicates 90+ % still in service at 7 years and xx% at 10 years. I let her know that the % info isn't meaningful unless it can be associated with something useful such as type of use (rough or easy) and frequency of use.

That did not answer my question. But I did learn that the people responsible for answering patient/customer questions about "1,000 uses" don't like the question.

Dr Clavell has youtube video addressing Coloplast Classic and One Touch pumps specifically. In the video at approximately 2:20 he states that in the lab, the classic pump was reportedly cycled thru inflation and deflation for 58000 cycles. He stated if that pump is cycled once daily it could theoretically last 52 years. He emphasized that these are reported lab results. Link to this youtube video is below.
