Explanted for a period of time?

Postby Mark1974 » Wed Jun 04, 2025 10:22 pm

I'm having a lot of trouble with urination and I see my uro Friday. I think there is a good chance he will explant me for a period.

For those of you who have been explanted for months or more, what does it feel and look like?

Thanks
Born 6/15/74. I have substantial venous leak with fairly severe hour-glassing, but no hard plaques. My urologist is Dr. Laurence Levine who performed a Doppler Ultrasound and diagnosed me with VL in 2020. Surgery scheduled for Coloplast Genesis 5/19/25

Hi man..hope everything will be fine...what urination problems you got ?..do you feel the tips in the first 3rd of the glans ? What rod girth have you got ?..I don't think there's any scenario he will explant without immediate replacement of another implant except if you insisted knowing the reprecussions...even in the setting of an infection they immediately "salvage" with a new implant because risking another infection is way more acceptable than leaving the corporal walls stick together for months or even days..that's why mulcahy's salvage is a breakthrough in penile prosthesis..it saved alot...remember there's no tissue between the walls once explanted.

Hi, thanks

I have a weak stream and dribbling. Urinary retention.

If it's just a matter of the rods putting pressure on the urethra then he might not have a period of explantation. But if it's something that requires surgical intervention (like if my urethra or bladder neck is damaged), then I think there will be a period of not having an implant.

I have a feeling that all that scar tissue in the corporal space must feel uncomfortable

Now i understand where your concern comes from...I don't think urethra/bladder is hurt for 2 reasons..1)urethral injuries are detected intra op by a saline flush test..I don't think levine would miss that..it's a 101 maneuver..
2) you would have gotten infection by now (god forbid)...

What i think you got is just a post op swelling compressing the urethra or worst case scenario rods are compressing urethra as you said that might need to be undersized (i think this too is very unlikely).

Have you faced the same current degree of weak stream/dribblimg since 1st day of the surgery ? Or did it increase or decrease in intensity ?
