Cycling Challenges After AMS 700 Penile Implant Looking for DMV Support

Postby Newlyimplantedbro » Wed Jun 04, 2025 5:02 pm

Hey everyone,

I recently received an AMS 700 penile implant, and while I'm thankful to be on this path toward restored function and confidence, I’m learning that cycling is proving to be quite a task, both physically and emotionally. I'm reaching out to see if anyone in the Washington, DC (DMV) area has been through this experience or has any tips, support group recommendations, or even just words of wisdom. I’ve got so many questions, and sometimes it helps just to know you’re not alone. If you’re open to connecting or sharing resources, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Look at it like it's your new job. I did 3 times a day. Kept inflated as long as possible. Honestly, this worked for me & I've read of several members that did the same with good results. Btw, if you get to a slow spot in your relationship. Be sure to inflate once or twice a week.

Thanks, this is really helpful information, and I appreciate you sharing it. My biggest fear (and honestly what’s been holding me back) is struggling to deflate. I’ve had a hard time trying to find that “small button” once I’ve inflated, and it’s made me hesitant to cycle regularly. I know it probably sounds strange, but that part really stresses me out.
Still, I need to look at it like you said, like a new job I have to commit to. Your routine of doing it three times a day and keeping it inflated as long as possible gives me something to work toward. Thanks again for the encouragement and the tip about regular inflation during relationship slow spots, really good advice.

I have a titan but had a similar fear about not being able to deflate. For me it was helpful to look at the device online (and in docs office) and see where and how the switch works. Also it's not like flipping a light switch - it's hold to spot on the release for a few secs and squeeze your penis. Sometimes you can hear/feel a "gurgle" as saline leaves. Perhaps goto website and see demo video?
Believe post prostate surgery I was around 5 inches down from 6. Never measured girth but post titan otr 20 cm seems thicker.

Welcome Newlyimplantedbro!

I'm in the DMV region. Who did your implant? Mine was done by Dr. Segal with Chesapeake Urology.

Soooo many questions. Which pump did you get with your AMS 700 - Tenacio or MS? Did you get the CX or LGX or CXR? Which size implant and RTEs if any?

For me - I have the MS. I like it just fine - no real complaints. How recently did you get your implant. Thought I saw somewhere that you are at about the 6 week mark. It may take some time for the pump and implant to soften up - so give it time.

For deflating I hold the pump by the bulb with one hand, and use the other hand to press the button firmly - hold for four seconds - THEN release and it should auto deflate. Sometimes I have to give it another squeeze of the button to get it to hold.

You are pretty early in the healing stages. Doctors like to say "life gets back to normal at week 6" - and well - thats optimistic. I'd say three months and you no longer are thinking about the implant on an hourly basis and don't really notice it 90% of the time.

Any questions feel free to DM me.

Welcome newly implanted brother :)! I'm probably about as far away from the DMV area as you can get, but I don't think that matters. Many of us are going through, or have gone through, the same thing and you definitely don't need to feel alone. I agree 100% with gt1956. That's what I'm currently doing and have been since Week 6. I've also been treated the cycling routine like it's my job and I actually look forward to it now. And the boss is very supportive, as she also gets the benefits :). Everything felt very foreign at first and I was probably also a bit clumsy, but I've become much better at it with practise. Initially I was also a bit apprehensive about using the pump and finding the button, but as you get used to cycling your confidence builds. Like equusAz said it would be good to know which implant model, pump and other specs you have. I've got the AMS LGX and the older style MS pump. I also like the MS pump and have found it to be completely reliable so far. I squeeze the block and button and it happily deflates each time. I can feel the saline flowing out and can sometimes hear a slight rush. Finding the pump bulb and the deflate button felt a bit unnatural in the beginning but now it's just second nature. Don't be frightened to play around with the whole set up, pump bulb, tubing, deflate button. I suggest trying to get used to moving things around to better identify where you need to press, how to hold the pump block in the optimal position etc. That may help boost your confidence, and won't break anything. The implant is effectively now part of your body and I reckon it helps to think of it like that. A bit too far to meet up, but please feel free to send me a private message anytime.

Recovery going well.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome, appreciate the support and encouragement from you all. It really does help to know I’m not alone in this.

Here’s a bit more about me:
Age: 48
Surgery Date: 6 weeks post-op
Reason for Implant: I had a prostatectomy due to a family history of prostate cancer. After weighing the options, this felt like the best decision for me long-term.
As for my implant details:

Model: AMS 700 CX (Controlled Expansion)
Pump: Momentary Squeeze (MS)
Cylinder Length: 24 cm
Rear Tip Extenders (RTEs): 2 cm on the right side only
Total Length: 26 cm on the right, 24 cm on the left

Still getting the hang of cycling and deflating can be a challenge some days, but I'm treating it like part of my recovery job. Confidence is growing little by little, and it helps to hear from others who’ve made it to the other side of this. Grateful to be part of the brotherhood — looking forward to learning more from you all.
