To: all
I am considering having penile implant surgery done by Dr. Clavell.
His reputation is strong as one of the best surgeons for this surgery and he
appears to be a "high volume" surgeon.
What I am hoping to get from this audience are their personal experiences
with Dr Clavell. Not rumors but real, personal experiences with inflatable
implant surgery with Dr. Clavell located in Houston Texas. Thank you.
SOME POTENTIAL TOPICS FOR YOU TO COMMENT ON:
(1) In particular I want to hear from people who had a previous
TURP Surgery to address their prostate enlargement. For such patients,
did you have your reservoir placed in an “alternate” location
rather than the traditional “Space of Retzius (SOR)” location?
And did you have any “auto inflation” issues or not?
In addition, did Dr Clavell partially fill your reservoir to
address such possible issues?
(2) Overall are you happy with the penile implant choice that Dr Clavell
made for you? - (AMS CX, AMS LGX, Titan). And the length he gave you?
(3) Do you have any "wobble" problem with the implant now?
(4) Did Dr Clavell use any RTEs? Or keep RTEs to a minimum
presumably to keep this feared wobble problem away?
(5) Do you seem to have good blood flow to your Glans?
In summary, I hope you are very satisfied with your experience with
Dr Clavell. Please tell me the good, the bad and the ugly here....
although I am hoping that you all will just tell me good news!
Thanks for listening.
Thank you in advance for your insights and feedback here.

Dr Clavell’s name is mentioned nearly 3300 times in posts in the implant section.
You can narrow the search considerably by searching for Clavell in the title only and limiting the list to topics.
That turns up 74 separate threads started with Dr Clavell’s name in the title.
That should give you a lot of the information you are looking for.

Agree - i think if you are in or within driving distance of Houston Dr Clavell makes a lot of sense. Lots of posts from real patients about their experiences. But if you are traveling there are also other fine surgeons in different parts of the country.

Instead of just telling you to search for your answers like these nerds do, I’ll just tell you.
My tubing is very very pronounced…my right tip is much higher in the glans than the left. I feel like I was aggressively sized and I’m actually bigger now than I was originally…I appreciated that. I had a revision after only one year. My erection points to the right because I wear it yo the right in my pants(I was told by him this didn’t matter).
All that being said, I’m happy I did this

Just remember that there is always a chance of a less that stellar outcome from even a top surgeon. They have no control over your anatomy or health history.
I'm kind of in a similar position. My pump is on the high side. Always has been. Even though I did pull it down regularly during recovery. I have a rather deep proximal measurement.

Can share my recent experience and will try to answer.
1. I had no TURP so I am unsure if that would make a difference. But Clavell told me reservoir placement depends on previous hernia surgery or other abdominal surgeries along with what is "safest" for each individual patient.
2. He allowed me to choose the implant. He was fairly unbiased to which brand which I really appreciated.
3. Still very early, but I don't see any wobble. Head looks well supported and tips are even.
4. No RTEs on me, fortunately. He does have a good video explaining everything regarding RTEs. Seems to be dependent on the individual's anatomy.
5. Blood flow to the glans depends on you/me/us, not on the surgeon.
Overall, satisfied thus far. No major complaints here. Getting in to see him was probably the most difficult part. Once I was scheduled and met with him, the process has been very smooth. Staff at the hospital were top notch and everyone seemed to speak very highly of him. He seems to really care for his patients which was very important for me when deciding for a surgeon. Wish you luck!

Likewise!
Best surgeon I've had thus far, and I've had several surgeons for different surgeries.
Overall, I've never been happier.

Hard to believe I'm over 2 years post implant, but here we are.
100% satisfied with my implant experience with Dr. Clavell. I paid out of pocket, which was over 100x what my copay would have been with my local Kaiser doc. Penile implant is not something you shop price on. I wanted the best outcome at any price, and I think I got it.
I did a lot of research and had formed an opinion on what manufacturer I preferred and the features of that particular device for the lifestyle I lead. I specifically wanted a doctor that could and would implant both of the big name devices, Coloplast and AMS. I certainly didn't want to be pushed into whichever implant the doctor used, especially if the other option would suit me better. Dr. Clavell will recommend what he thinks is best for your situation, as the implants have different pros and cons, but the ultimate decision is yours.
After my consultation with Dr. Clavell, I asked him which of the implants he thought would serve me better, I was happy to hear him recommend the AMS, the one I had already determined looked to be better for my application. I know for a fact he installed a Titan in the man prior to me on the same day of my surgery. More options are better than fewer.
The surgery went well, I had almost zero pain (never used an Rx pain pill). Surgery Wednesday, flew 5 hours home on Friday and was back at my desk at work on Monday. In my case, Doctor Clavell came across a blockage in my left corpora cavernosa and was unable to open it using a range of dilators. On the fly, he made an incision under the glans and removed the blockage to continue the installation. Come to find out after the fact that he had literally written a paper about this specific technique and was one of the pioneers of it. I was VERY happy to have had him when I needed him most!
I don't hesitate to recommend Dr. Clavell, his pain management protocol seems to be top tier, as many of his patients report on here about very little post-op recovery pain. I had read about others touting his pain management before I decided on Dr. Clavell, and I can attest first hand that they were right. (your mileage may vary, as everybody is different)
I'm completely happy with my implant, the surgery, the care and the outcome.
No wobble
No auto inflation (that may be implant specific, not surgeon related)
I have RTE, but that's to fine tune where the hoses come in and out of your scrotum, RTEs are not the devil, unless they're stacked up in lieu of proper implant sizing.
My glans flow is commensurate with my level of arousal.
