Safe Vacuum Pressure Before Surgery?

Postby Courage » Sat May 10, 2025 3:20 pm

For guys that used a vacuum pump prior to surgery, what is a safe pressure? One of the doctors I saw recommended using one before revision for sizing. I didn't think to ask instructions though and I'm still doctor shopping, so I can't really ask.

I got a cheap vacuum pump off Amazon that cycles on and off in a 40 millibar range (30-70, 70-110, 110-150, et cetera). I usually use it between 110-150.

I've never interacted with these before so I want to keep it safe.

I suspect that the pressure gauges in everything but the highest quality “medical grade” (100s of dollars) units are wildly inaccurate and vary. I don’t know that any numbers thrown around are going to be accurate/useful.

I used a VED consistently to prepare for surgery. I just inflated until it was slightly uncomfortable. NOT painful. And if there is any bruising, broken blood vessels, or edema that’s too much pressure. The point was to get a good hard stretch filling the tissue with blood. Not to cause tissue damage.

I’ll bet the more erectile function you start with, the less benefit you get from a VED. If you are getting hardons, even crappy ones the tissue is still getting stretched. I suspect the greatest benefits are had by the post-prostatectomy men with no erectile function at all.

I used a VED and a tension device because I wanted to make sure I had NO regrets later. I wanted to feel like I did everything in my power to prepare. I’m glad I did.

Very fair point! I guess it'll just be a feeling out process.
