What is ectopic/alternative reservoir placement and what are its benefits over traditional one?
Does someone know anything more about it?

Re: What is ectopic/alternative reservoir placement and what are its benefits over traditional one?
Ectopic mean a non-normal placement. The reservoir is placed under the abdominal muscle rather than through the inguinal canal and near the bladder. The ectopic placement is chosen when a hernia mesh repair has been previously done or when there is a small or potential hernia present. In those situations, the surgeon is reluctant to mess with the canal. Other advantages to the ectopic placement are that it is less invasive and not visible. It does, however, require a second incision which can be visible. I have this placement, and the incision is hidden in s skin crease and is very hard to detect. If it ever needs to be removed, it is simple, whereas removing one near the bladder is possibly more difficult. I hope this helps.

Where the incision is made? In the abdominal muscle?

My incision is horizontal and on the right side about 4 inches and 45 degrees from my penis. The reservoir is slipped under the muscle and the tubing is tunneled from there to the scrotum. The healing was a non-issue while the implant took center stage to draw my attention. It healed well and is almost imperceptible.
