Need implant but wait time is long. Is there any way to expedite the process?

Postby edaccount9001 » Thu Feb 29, 2024 10:51 pm

I had an injury to my penis about a month ago. I already had ED prior to this, but it's much worse now. The injury is related to use of a pump and constriction ring. The condition is deteriorating. This isn't just typical ED. It shrunk, it's discolored/pale, I can't get erections at all, not even semi-erections. If I don't take cialis 10mg daily, it gets shriveled up and hard while flaccid, it starts to hurt, and the skin starts to get sticky. And the meds seem to just keep getting less effective. It feels empty and lifeless. I'm worried that this is headed toward gangrene. Frankly I'm not even sure that surgery would solve the problem, or what exactly the problem is. I'm guessing the arteries are severely damaged or the tissue isn't able to expand properly anymore. Probably nerve damage too.

I'm hoping that an implant would salvage this, but it seems that the lead time on surgery is very long. I can't seem to find any place around me (northeast, NY/NJ/PA area) that has a reputable surgeon that will operate on short notice. The impression I'm getting is that it would take at least 2-3 months before any work could be done. I don't know if I have time for that. Is there anywhere that would be able to condense this process into a shorter time period? I would be willing to travel elsewhere in the states if I have to.

Also, do you think an implant would be the correct choice for my particular situation?

Get yourself to your primary care doctor or a urologist right away. I am talking about TOMORROW! Describe the problem(s) and get yourself examined NOW! Especially if any of your symptoms are progressing.

I am no medical expert, but I am sure what you have is NOT GOOD.

Do you have medical insurance? If not, do not let that stop you from seeking help.

I've tried. I think that this is an urgent situation too. I tried to get help as early as possible. The first urologist I saw just looked it briefly, grabbed it, pulled hard on it, bent it in every direction. Then said it's psychological and walked out of the room. Basically treated me like I'm a crazy person. It's been gradually getting worse over the course of the past month. I've been to 2 different urologists, and two hospitals (hoping I might get immediate testing and treatment), and they all brushed it off. The hospitals both said they wouldn't do any testing because they couldn't see a problem on the outside and that I should make a urologist appointment. The second urologist told me that if there was damage, he would be able to see it or feel it, and that I should try to relax. He didn't seem very concerned. Every time I need to make an appointment, it's more waiting, more deterioration. I have a followup appointment with the second urologist on monday. He might do an MRI then. I'm very worried about where this is headed. I just don't know where to turn at this point.
I actually have pretty good insurance.

Personally, I traveled from Tokyo to Houston to get the surgery completed. If me, I would just call all the good doctors as recommended on this forum. Have the consult. Purchase a plane ticket and go.

..... today.

I'd be willing to do it if there's no good options in driving distance. It's just that my experiences so far with urologists lead me to believe they're fully booked for quite a while, won't make accommodations for urgent situations, and drag out the process of getting help for several follow up appointments. So I might make an appointment today, it would be months from now. I actually got an appointment with Eid on April 1st, but it's just a consultation. Then I would need to make another appointment after that for testing, then another appointment for surgery.
And if I'm traveling by plane, I would need everything to be done on the same day or within a period of just a few days.
The urologist I'm seeing right now says he does implant surgeries when necessary, but I don't know if I trust him with this procedure.

Agreed.

That does not sound good.
Could be an infection going on in there, or worse.

This issue needs to be dealt with Prontissimo.

I completely agree. I wanted it dealt with a month ago to minimize the damage if possible. But I don't know how to get it dealt with. At this point I'm worried it's past the point of no return. Now I have an MRI appointment, but it's two weeks away. And the followup to the MRI is 3 weeks away. No one seems to be able or willing to treat this issue with any urgency. If anyone has any ideas, or knows of anyone who would try to put me at or near the front of the line and not make me go through several appointments while my body continues to deteriorate, please let me know. This entire experience has been horrifying and I'm worn down by it and I don't know what to do.

Dr. Clavell does video consultations, during which he will have a look at your penis. He’s a board certified urologist, dealing with every aspect of men’s sexual health. He was very quick getting me into his schedule. Consult will cost about $200.
Active, athletic 63 years old. Sexually, still 33 in my mind and spirit. Pills and injections all worked, until they didn’t. Diagnosed with veinous leakage in 2022. Coloplast Titan. 22 CM. No RTE. Peno-scrotal. Implanted 1/4/23. Dr. Clavell.

The only problem I might have with that is he may not be able to see an issue on the surface because he doesn't know what my baseline is. And most of the symptoms aren't necessarily visible ones, like it hasn't turned black or blue yet. Maybe the pale, loose, and thin skin would be enough but I'm not sure. I think the main useful information he would get is from my description of how it feels, and in my experience most of the doctors don't seem to care about that. Do you know if he takes medicare or medicaid? How many additional appointments did you need to do and how long did it take to get surgery?
edit: just checked, the soonest appointment with Clavell is April 1st.

Ask if they can put you on a waiting list in case there is a cancellation. That's how I was able to get my surgery within 2 weeks.
