Broken again?

Postby JohnHC » Fri Jan 26, 2024 12:17 am

I had my original implant done last April, then a revision done due to a hole in one of the cylinders. After that everything was great, worked great etc.... now it worked perfectly a couple days ago, tonight I get the same issue - I pump it a few times and the bulb goes flat again and no amount of moving the pump around gets it to reinflate. I'm pretty much devastated right now with the thought of having to have another surgery to fix this yet again. Going to call my person at AMS tomorrow, then I guess my Dr to see what can be done, I might need to see if I can get in to see Dr Hakkey (sp?) And see if he can fix me proper I guess...... I mean geez first one didn't make it till the 2 week followup, and this one only about 6 months? Just my luck to get 2 defective units....

It was Dr Rajanahally with Urology of Greater Atlanta. I seriously doubt it's his fault, I think it's most likely a bad batch of devices especially since both were implanted pretty close to one another and could have been within the same batch. It's acting the same, so I know the issue is fluid loss in the device.

You in Atlanta. Go see Dr Hakky in Buckhead.
Revision 2/13/24 Dr Tariq Hakky, Atlanta (Great Doctor) Titan 24XL no Rte’s. I’m 62 married. I have had numerous revisions due to product and body failures. Always had a Titan ipp.

No I'm actually in Middle Ga between 1 to 2 hours or more depending on traffic. I didn't know about Dr Hakky before, but not sure how this will shake out. I know AMS picked up the cost for the device and hospital on the second surgery but not sure if that would happen if I change Drs. I still haven't paid for the first surgery and need to start that ( to the tune of $41k ) because although insurance when I called them said it was covered ( both device and surgery ) they later claimed oh it's in your plans exclusions so now I have to pay that. I think AMS will or should cover this one as well, but not sure if the hospital will let it happen until I pay for the first one, and I still owe the Dr around 2k for his part.... Just not a good situation all around at all.

Yes you are in a terrible position! Who was your insurance company? Which hospital did you have surgery in?

I have UMR part of United Healthcare and the surgery was done at Piedmont hospital in Stockbridge. The thing is, I never got any package, email, etc about there being exclusions to our plan except for the normal stuff about cancer drugs or experimental drugs/procedures. Then after being told that I had to do some serious digging on the site to find a exclusions document which talked about fertility drugs or fertility treatments which they consider this a fertility treatment ( anything that would help you in conceiving a child is considered thus ) but what's the point in calling and having them lookup your benefits by your policy number etc, if the exclusions don't show up in computer unless it goes through billing?

Well all insurance is that way. Even if you get it pre approved does not guarantee it will be covered….so why have to go through all the pre process… go figure

I would consider Dr. Hakky instead as well as switching to a Titan change some of the variables and see if that changes your outcome.
