general question about recovery time

Postby Islanderboy58 » Wed Jan 03, 2024 11:41 am

I am concerned about the amount of recovery time I will need to be able to do the work I do.
I am retired but have a side hussle mowing grass. I have jobs that require me to be on the zero turn for up to 5 or 6 hours a day running over pretty rough terrain.
For those implanted looking back at you recovery ....in general...how long would you guess I would need to wait to return to work?
I am hoping to be scheduled late march early April work generally starts beginning of May is this doable?
If not I would prob be forced to wait till early fall.
any input is greatly appreciated'

Definitely doable.

My doctor's orders for the first two weeks after surgery were that I couldn't lift more than five pounds.

I went back after two weeks for my first follow-up appointment. He confirmed I was healing properly, fully deflated me, and told me to slowly resume normal physical activity.

I was remodeling my house at the time, and within two or three weeks, I was doing everything I had been doing before the surgery.

I would have been fine with my recovery and a zero turn, especially after 3 weeks, rest week 1, most likely could have done it week 2. I would have needed something baggier than jeans, loose fitting pants will be important i think. Baby sock over your member and briefs, boxers will be too loose in the first couple months.

Everyone is different but my guess is between 3 to 6 weeks you should be able to resume almost everything. As mentioned, rest the first week or so, then slowly resume activity as your surgeon allows. You may want to consider some spandex underwear for the first few weeks back to work to keep everything from bouncing around too much.

I think with some common sense 2 weeks might be doable. I could freeway drive for 7 hours at 1 week. I think the bigger question is how will you be loading this mower? If lots of effort is needed to pull on the steering handles you tend to push with your feet. So mow slower so you're not making sudden steering changes. That might cause issues with your abdomen if placing the reservoir was difficult. Like have you had a hernia repair. Lifting a gas can real high might be uncomfortable.

I'm thinking it will be best to do some short days first to see how it goes. Be sure to rest all of the evening to recover. It might not hurt to take some ibuprofen when you get home so you don't stiffen up.

Good luck.
