Known allergies before a surgery shouldn't be the patients total responsibility. If doctors are going to put something foreign in your body it should be their responsibility to test you for allergic reactions prior to just sticking them in! My wife had a total shoulder replacement, she knew she had some allergies to some metals prior to it, but when they tested her she was allergic to 8 out of 12 metals! If a patient doesn't know, or isn't aware, the best solution is to test for it! How bright are these doctors now? They ask you a million questions, do thousands of dollars worth of tests, and they don't check for allergic reactions to materials you're going to have placed in your body forever! I guess that's why they're still "practicing" medicine.
If you don't be your own advocate then who will? Ask questions, don't just go with their flow!
