If you walked in the door with cash, what would it cost?

True but it's basically free if you're over 65 and are covered by Medicare.

A few weeks post op, I received an invoice for just over $75,000. :o
It had a balance due of $45k+, and this was after I prepaid my $3,000 out of pocket limit.
Needless to say, I was on the phone the next day. Lol
They said that the invoice was sent by mistake, and the insurance was still processing.
I suspect they shoot for the moon, knowing the insurance company will discount the bill substantially.

85k to insurance Co. To me about 29k. I owe a 15% co pay on the 29k. This is USC with Doctor Stuart Boyd (retired) and the official Doctor Loh-boyle. Boyd started in 1982 in this field. Top hand. Both showed up for surgery and were excited to do this procedure. Like 2 giggling little girls. Needless to say no complaints. I would to the east coast for these guys.
RP 2015. all downhill real fast. 2022 consulting doctor at USC. Apptmt is in November going bionic??

Not True! Medicare A only covers hospital expenses. You need to have Medicare B as well, which is an elective insurance you pay for out of your SS check. Then you still need to cover the yearly deductible.

Ok if you say so.

Personally I only had to pay $100 to the hospital and have only paid $15x 3 (so far) to my doc (for co-pays) but I'm covered under United HealthCare's Medicare Advantage program which I assume includes Medicare Part A &B. I've got 1 more doc appt in May so the total "medical" costs for my implant will only be $160.

Also paid $10 for a pain killer that I didn't use. Will pay a total of about $35x4 ($140) for gas/tolls for travel to my doc appts. And about $225 for a motel room pre-op to make the early surgical time.

So, the total cost for everything for me will be about $535, which I consider "basically" free.

I thank you all for your help.

From $20k to $85k is a factor of four.

I don't pinch pennies and try to go for the best.

How can I reconcile some surgeons charging four times as much?

Thank you
