My revision is scheduled for 4/12

Postby sliphill » Mon Mar 20, 2023 11:23 pm

My implant failed after almost 6 years. I think it was partly my fault. I think I over pumped once to many times. I would usually give it 10 or so more pumps after I was fully errect, in otherwords after the bulb was hard to pump. I believe I caused the leak. The original doctor that did my first one retired. But the new one knows my old one. He has a few hundred implants under his belt. But instead of making an incision above the penis, he is making one behind my ball sack. So we’ll see. I know one thing, I don’t to wait 6 weeks to try it out like the first one. Anyways it just failed on me about 3 weeks ago. No over night stay in the hospital. Get to go home the same day, but with a catheter. When the pulled it out the first time, that smarted! I’m excited. 1 day before my 68th birthday.

BEHIND your scrotum? Do you mean on the front right below your penis?

My guess is he means in the aft portion of his scrotum.

I think that is what the doctor said. Does this take longer to heal?

I have never heard of this approach so you should clarify and if he confirms it is behind, you should probably get a more experienced surgeon.

I believe he said the incision would be in the scrotum. Not exactly sure where. He has done a few hundred implants so I'm pretty confident in him.

If the incision is at the juncture below penis where it meets the scrotum, it would be penoscrotral (PS). If the incision is in the pubic region immediately above the base of the penis, then it would be infrapublic (IP)

Recovery for a PS implant normally takes longer than for an IP implant but I'm not sure how much longer or shorter the recovery period would be fora revision versus an original implant by either method but I assume it depends on how much of the original implant needs to be "revised."

This sounds like this is something you need to talk to your doctor about BEFORE your scheduled surgery.

Thanks for clearing this up. So this is what he meant. My first one was the IP method and it took 6 weeks to recover. So I am getting the PS this time around. Hopefully it doesn't take longer than 6 weeks to recover. Can someone who has had the PS method tell me how long it took to recover?

6 wks sounds like a long recovery period for IP. I guess it depends on how you define "recovery."

After my IP implant, I was able to cycle in 1 wk and was approved to have sex in 3 without any pain, which my doc already considers a successful "recovery."

However, still don't feel "fully recovered" currently 8 wks (2 months) post op because I still have to cycle daily and still feel the "stretch" when inflated and some discomfort as a result of it.

I'll consider myself "fully recovered" when I don't have to cycle 2x/day and when I don't notice the implant anymore, whether inflated or not, which obviously will take much longer.

6 weeks until I could have sex.
