I will fully update and journal and experience!
My story:
(1987) I was 16 years old and playing in a high school football game.
I was running the ball and was hurdling a downed defender and his knee came up and hit me in the groin just as I was being tackled from behind.
Which resulted in my penis being crushed at the base between my cup and my body.

I knew immediately I was hurt bad. The pain was tremendous.
I did what the football players at my school were expected to do. I walked it off. By the time I got home and got ice on it....there was substantial swelling and bruising.
My dad wasn't around and I was too embarrassed to tell my mom so I just figured it would heal.

After the bruising and swelling subsided....I was mortified to find that my erections were weak and floppy at the base.

I pretty much just accepted that I'd probably never have a sex life so I did my very best not to think about sex and rarely masturbated. When I did masturbate...it just served as a reminder that I was damaged.

I became a personal trainer and lifted weights a ton and that was my whole life.
I dated but nothing serious until I was 24.
I met a girl who was super understanding and supportive and we eventually married.
With a lot of foreplay I was able to get erect enough to have penetrative sex but I would usually lose my weak erection before finishing.
I went and saw a urologist who prescribed Caverject. I use it a couple times and was extremely pleased with the quality of erection I had...but it was a total mood killer for me to have to inject a needle in my penis.
The urologist suggested a penile implant would be the best option at that point if I wasn't happy with the injections. (pre viagra/cialis days)

I was implanted with a AMS 700 at 24 years old.

After healing I couldn't have been happier.
Rock hard perfect erections on demand were a dream!
I did unfortunately lose about an inch from Caverject erection size of 8" to my implanted size of 7". Girth stayed the same at 6".
I was definitely undersized when implanted. The ends of my implant are at least a half to 3/4 inches away from my glans.

But something else happened that was also unexpected....and amazing!
I began to get more and more natural erections.
It seemed that now that my penis was actually getting used...blood flow was being either developed or rerouted and I was getting regular natural erections.

My then wife developed some serious mental illness for which she refused to get treatment for a we divorced a few years after I got the implant.
I didn't date at all and just focused on raising my son who I had custody of.
I did continue to masturbate often without inflating.
A couple years past and I, on a whim decided to attempt to inflate my implant and found that it was no longer functioning.
My erections without inflating were still a decent quality but obviously with a useless implant they were not a firm as a natural and floppy at the base.

My implant lasted somewhere between 4 to 6 years before it malfunctioned.

I stayed single until just a couple years ago and at age 47, I met and married my current wife.
I am in extremely good shape and work out daily.
My wife is 10 years younger than me and still child bearing age.
I explained to her early on into our dating my whole story and that I was confident I would be able to have sex even with a malfunctioning implant.
Although it likely wouldn't be as hard and last as long as what she was probably used to with her previous partners.

She was completely fine with it and totally understanding.
We have a very active, happy and satisfying sex life. ( 2 to 3 times a week) Not once during our relationship so far have I ever not been able to perform enough to penetrate her and finish. Sometimes a lot of foreplay is required...which is frustrating to a degree but she is patient. It also helps that I am extremely attracted to my wife and I am sure my dedication to my fitness has helped as well.
My natural erections would be rated at a 7.
They aren't as firm, last a long and are somewhat floppy....but I get them consistently and dependably.
It just takes work to get them and they don't last as long as I'd like....and due to the floppiness....kinda limited on positions.

The original plan my wife and I had was we would continue as is until my natural erections were no longer usable.

But she has started to have side effects from her IUD and asked me to get a vasectomy which of course I told her I would be happy to.
Once we began talking and researching the vasectomy....and the downtime for intimacy and my weightlifting....
I thought maybe now would be an ideal time to get my implant replaced.
Although I am capable of an erection good enough for sex....I don't want to be just good enough anymore.

I did a ton of research looking for the best of the best in my area (Midwest) and feel extremely fortunate to have found Dr. Lawrence Levine at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
We met with him last month and I couldn't be more impressed!
He was extremely personable, patient with all of our questions and reassuring.
I explained that my biggest concern was I wanted to maintain as much of the natural erections possible. He, of course explained that he couldn't guarantee that but did say that the plan was just to removed the old implant, replace it with the new one and only a small degree of dilation was needed at the end.
That the blood flow and healthy tissue wouldn't be affected.
That pleased me greatly as I do know that my wife does take great satisfaction in feeling me get erect...and I pray that is preserved as much as possible.

I am also hoping to gain some missing size back with a better and more appropriate larger size.
I made the decision to go forward because I trust Dr. Levine and I would like the best quality erection possible.

So I am getting implanted via the penoscrotal route as well as a vasectomy on 2/20/23 with Dr. Levine.

I am slightly nervous but endlessly optimistic everything will go great.

For those that have had revisions....how did they go for you?
Was your recovery faster or the same.
Did you lose or gain any size?
If you has any natural engorgement prior to your revision....did you maintain it?

If you made it all the way down here....
thank you so very for taking the time to read my story!
Wish me luck please!

I did not have a full revision just a repair. My left cylinder and pump were removed to make a suture sling and then put back in. I have trouble with narcotic meds, and I asked for a spinal and not to be sedated (awake) for the operation. Pena scrotal approach. I felt good and that is a problem for me in that I have trouble taking it easy if I don't feel pain. Or at least feel bad. Swelling was an issue that made it difficult to urinate after wards. And I wanted to get up instead of lying flat and forgot to ask for ice packs in recovery.

A VED is recommended to use minimum 3 weeks prior for helping with size loss. Too late for that now and you would have had to be careful not to overdo it and cause damage and additional size loss. I also use manual stretching before surgery when I did not have time to use the VED and clean it and put it away. I would use my thumb on top and index and middle finger below at the base of my glans (head of the penis). Standing I would pull out in front of me gently and hold for 2 seconds. Then return back to my body. Then repeat up towards my bellybutton. down to the floor, then out to the left, and then to the right. Do as many times as you have time for. 2-3 times a day. Be gentle as you do not want to cause any damage. Don't know if the short time you have will make a difference, but it will give you something to do.

I will guess your wife will be going with you so have her remind you to stay as flat as possible for the first 24-48 hours and to use ice packs. You should have discharge instructions for recovery. Both my doctors wanted me to use a thin film of Bacitracin ointment on the incision and a gaze (sterile) pad to cover. And Motrin for swelling. And ice packs. I used bags of dry beans and put the bags in zip lock bags in the freezer. As they are dry, they will not melt and clump up like ice or frozen veggies. And they will form around where needed. And you can eat them after wards. I do not know how long your doctor will have you wait for activation (starting cycling). For my first it was just under 3 weeks and for my repair it was 6 weeks. For my repair recovery went so well that the hardest part was the wait and not doing anything with it. Other than wound care of course.

I read that most infection cases the man brought it into the ER with him. There are germs in skin. I showered and used Hibiclens soap from my chest to my knees. Do not use it one your face. I did a regular shower with dial antibacterial soap and then used the Hibiclens for another cleaning chest to knees. After showering I use alcohol wipes to wipe down my inner thigh's, penis, and testicles. It works great for me to prevent jock rash and dry things out. One doctor uses alcohol prep also. And if you do baths one doctor used to have men add a cup of bleach to the bath water and soak for 30 minutes 3 days before surgery. I don't know how much of this you will have time for. But be as clean as you can going into the hospital. I washed white cotton under ware in bleach and dried on high heat and put them in plastic baggies from the drier to protect them from picking up germs. And I used them the day of surgery and then afterwards until my incision was dry.

Best of luck to you.
Injections failed. Implanted 3-21-18 AMS 700 LGX 21 + 1 RTE 100 cc reservoir 6.5" L 5" G Dr. Kramer.

I am hoping the recovery time is faster since it is a revision.
Does anyone have any insight on that?

Given the age of your implant and that it failed for an unknown reason about 4-6 years later, I would think that you'd want all of the old plumping replaced with something new.

So, I"m not that you'd call that a simple revision but an entirely new surgery with all of the same risks & concerns as any other such surgery being done for the 1st time.

You don't say which method of implantation that your doc will be using but, if it's penoscrotral you, should expect your recovery time to be about 6 weeks and, if it's infrapublic, about 3 wks.

All the pre-surgerical precautions, like washing w/Hebiclens & taking antibiotics (generally starting 5 days pre-op) and continuing (as advised by your doc post op) should be observed to avoid the risk of infection which is the greatest concern associated with this surgery.

Best of luck!

I was getting some engorgement and weak erections before I was implanted.
After I was implanted in 1997...I began to regularly have sex and masturbate....much higher quality erections just developed over time.
Still no where near what I had before my injury...but reasonably usable even with a malfunctioning implant.
I would assume blood flow either developed, was restored or rerouted.

I am praying that I retain as much of my natural erection as possible after my revision surgery tomorrow.
