Had my penile ultrasound today

Postby Ecbbrown » Fri Feb 17, 2023 4:45 pm

Well, I finally had my ultrasound today and what a relief! I’ve wondered for years if my ED issues were mental as I have had depression and OCD since my late teens/early twenties. I was worried that if that was the case, my insurance wouldn’t cover it. Turns out I have arterial insufficiency and Venous Leak. So it IS physical and my insurance should cover it! My self esteem and sex life has suffered for years because of this so hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel!
48; Oral meds early 20s-mid 30s. Lots of side effects. Inject ever since, with 4 hrs or longer episodes of priapism. Thought was OK since they weren't longer. PD now. Logistics & pain of injecting have made me seriously consider an implant.

Congrats on getting over that hurdle. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing ahead.

Receiving the results of my Doppler, ultrasound, and the diagnosis of Venus leakage was a real “A-ha!” moment for me. I had assumed that my own ED was somehow psychological, despite the pills and injections losing effectiveness. That diagnosis freed me from my dependence on those things, and opened my mind to the possibility of the implant.

Today I am just over six weeks, postop, and already I can tell it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in a very long time!

Best wishes to you my friend

Thank you both. That means a lot. Now……..the wait for insurance approval and a surgery date begins! Ugh!!!

I'm sure you are relieved to have finally learned that the problem was physical and that it can be fixed.

Hopefully, the implant can be paid for by your insurance. If not, you'll be looking at an out of pocket cost of about $20k to get it done. Not cheap but not an insurmountable amount for most people.

While your insurance claim is being assessed, I recommend that you read & learn as much as you can about the 2 current, major brands of implants -- Boston Scientific AMS700 & Coloplast Titan Touch -- and the two main surgical methods used to implant them -- infrapubic & penoscrotal, before you have to make a decision about which brand and method of implant you want to get.

You can get a lot of anecdotal info about these things here on Frank Talk but bear in mind that there is a bias towards negative reporting and that none of us here AFAIK are doctors.

So, I highly recommend that you seek out and read the medical research documents that are easily found on the Net, as wells as statements and info provided in their websites (including videos of the methods they use) by almost every penile implant surgeon

As a 1st step, I recommend that you watch the series of videos produced by Dr. Perito in Florida. There are a little over 80 of them which cover every possible topic or question you may have about getting a penile implant..

They are captioned MTP (for Meet The Penis). To find them, just google "MTP # Perito" and replace the # sign with the number of the episode of the video that you want to find.

That's how I found & watched everyone of them.

Good luck & best wishes for a successful, life changing penile implant surgery! 8-)
