How to cope with the wait for an IPP?

Postby Hillywilly » Mon Feb 06, 2023 11:15 am

Hey Guys,

Just wondering how long it took you from deciding to get an IPP until actually getting one? How did you cope? Everyday I feel as if the health of my penis is getting worse and I only have virtual appointments (video calls) with high volume providers. I assume I’ll have to fly out for measurements next and I worry my penis will atrophy in the meantime. How long you think it will take to get treatment?

After reading your posts I think you should see a therapist before you get an implant.

You are all over the place.

I first consulted with Dr. Perito and he could do the implant within 30 days. Ended up not choosing him because my insurance would not pay. I consulted next with Dr. Clavell and he also was able to do the surgery within 1 month, and was much cheaper as well ($21,000 Clavell vs $31,000 Perito).

That’s what i did. 1 month postop now.

The waiting is the worst. Do your consultations, make a firm decision, put your head down and don’t look back once you do. Prepare your penis by daily vacuuming and prepare yourself mentally to live in a normal state of apprehension in the interim. We all go through it.

Just use the VED a couple of times a day until your surgery.

Willy,

If you need an implant in order to have sex and you have a way to pay for it, just do it. Pick a surgeon, any of the high-volume surgeons will do an excellent job for you, it is not a very complicated surgery, and it only takes them about 45 minutes. Don't get tangled up debating if this surgeon is better than that surgeon, just chose one who is convenient for you. You are not going to have any loss of size if you use a VED, just don't get obsessed with it, you can do damage if you over do it. Read some posts on preserving size using a VED and use it moderately.

Pick a surgeon, call their office and tell them you are down to an implant being the only way you can have intercourse. Don't be embarrassed, they take calls like this several times a day.

You need to fill out your signature, so we know more about you, we don't know your age, ED history, married or anything. Members here can provide you with information more applicable to you if they know more about you.

If you are going to use insurance, the insurance companies want you to jump through the hoops of pills and injections before they approve an implant. This needs to be documented, but a high-volume office knows how to handle the insurance. If you are on Medicare, it is a lot easier.

As others above have stated, just make your decision and don't look back, just go submissive and let the surgeon do their magic, they know more about what is best for you than we do. And whatever you do, don't get all upset by some of the "failures" you read about on FT, they are really rare and they can all be corrected.

Stop worrying and just do it, it will become the best decision of your life.

Don't think it could be said better. He stated the facts, and I agree totally with his post. Worrying will never solve anything and only get you gray hairs and wrinkles.

I initally consulted w/a doc near me and was scheduled for an IPP surgery 2 months later (my choice) because of the holidays.

However, that surgery ended up being cancelled & rescheduled until March due to changes at the hospital that the doc used.

In the interim, I did some further research and contacted another doc still in my area but farther away who was more experienced and used a method that I also preferred better.

Took 1 month to see him and 1 month more to get the IPP done by him.

So, from the time that I initially decided to get an IPP, it took a total of just about 4 months to get it done.

-----------------------------------------------

"Coping" wasn't a problem or issue for me because my ED problem didn't become serious until about 6 months before I made the decision to do something about it.

I broke up w/my previous GF at about the same time (not because of the ED; other issues) so there was no need to "perform" during the hiatus and I wasn't concerned about that.

I just wanted to "fix it" and knowing that the plans were in place to do so was reassuring and I knew that it would only be a matter of time before it got done.

I will try to answer what I can. Nothing worked for me when I finally was able to afford to pay out of pocket and have it done. Once I was all in and going to get this fixed it was like a big dark heavy weight was lifted off of me. I was happier than I had been in a long time. Took me a few months to arrange everything. Get the money and send it and then schedule everything. Get hotel and air travel. Much of the preop testing and certification for surgery was done with my local health care people and sent. Some of it is time specific so it was done shortly before I went out of state for the surgery. First time I had a face to face with the doctor was the day before the surgery. That was a 10 minute how do you do brief examination of my penis. I had no testing (ultrasound, MRI,Injection, or anything else ever). The measurement that determines size of the cylinders is made in the OR. No other one is needed. Doctors do differ a lot though so you need to decide and then go by what ever that doctor does. If you have and are using insurance that will add a bit to the process. Some doctors and insurance companies are faster at this than others. In the general section of this forum in the documents worth reading thread pinned to the top there is an article about Penis exercise. It is directed at men who have lost erections from prostate surgery but it applies to any man who has diminished or lost nocturnal erections. This is about uses a VED for therapy. Please give that a read or even twice. VED use can cause damage so follow the instruction in that publication. Even low vacuum applied too fast can cause damage. And too much vacuum can also.

How long depends on a lot of things including how busy your doctor is. How soon insurance/self pay is made so everything can get scheduled. And I had no testing but some doctors do MRI's, or Ultrasound, or even an office injection. I would say average would be arround 2 months with some being shorter and some being longer. I was so happy during that time. I had lost a part of me and I was getting it back.

Good luck to you going forward with this.

Thank you. It’s just I do not really know because my urologist didn’t recommend I get one at my last doppler appointment in December said my venous and arterial flow was normal.

I had scheduled the Doppler because in November I masterbared for far to long while high and a tightened band developed around my penis. After my ultrasound it has gotten worse.

I was depressed prior to this occurring but now it’s major depression I don’t feel like even leaving my house for social activities or where I’ll see hot women because I figure what is the point? So I isolate instead and it’s bad for me.

It’s been almost 3 months and the doctor said wait 3-6 to see how you heal and recover and that seems too long for me. However, I have healed from similar injuries in the past.

I’ve got consults with clavell and Hakky setup hopefully they can give me some guidance. Any advice?

During the wait, what else can you do to improve your life (if you want to see improvements in your life)? Reassess parts of your diet, practice meditation, work on exercise discipline, map out new forms of income?
Titan OTR. Dr. Hakky - successful surgery and very happy with outcome.
My advice: choose a world-class surgeon and make yourself the healthiest you can.
