Sauna / Ice baths with implant

Postby indeed » Thu Jan 19, 2023 7:36 am

Hey guys

I use the sauna and do ice baths quite regularly. (Not implanted yet).
I read that silicone does react to cold and heat exposure, so i'm wondering if any of you guys have experience with this.
Do you think doing that could damage the implant in the long run?

I might contact coloplast about this, but someone told me even they couldn't give him a straight answer.

Curious about your opinions.

Many thanks

First you will need to follow your doctors instructions on saunas and baths as they can be a source of infection. Secondly heat helps with healing at a certain point after surgery. Thirdly heat helps with softening the device and helps it work better when you start cycling. This is a question you need to ask your doctor as they differ a lot. I use an electric heating pad to help soften my device when I started cycling. I was not cleared for baths yet but that did not matter as I do not take baths.

After doc cleared me to bathe a hot bath every morning helped ease my soreness and soften my Titan. It was way easier in the beginning months to inflate and deflate after soaking for a while.
Can't say anything about the effects of cold, except I hate being cold. I never use ice packs.
My thought is the extreme change in temperatures may not be the best for an implant, but I'm no scientist or doctor. I would definitely ask the surgeon.

Since you’re just asking for opinions, I don’t think the temperature variation you’re talking about are extreme enough to affect the implant materials. But talk to the doctors about it.

I agree with Flounder… just my opinion. I iced almost constantly for the first 3-4 days per instructions by Dr. As soon as I was allowed to bath I hit in my hit tub and the heat really helped. I have noticed a hot bath or my hit tub set at 100degrees really helps it to inflate easier especially earlier on during break in. Can’t see going from hot to cold would possibly hurt an implant but would check with Dr if concerns.

Thanks for the answers guy.
Problem is, i doubt the surgeons really know how extreme temperature changes really affect the implant in the long term. Even a coloplast rep didn't know.
Fact is, silicone reacts to hot and cold, so my guess too would be it's not the best for the device in the long run.
Question is if the temperatures are extreme enough to have an impact. I guess what i'll do is contact someone that really know how silicone works (a chemist or something). Probably no one else has the answers.

Thanks guys

This is a good question, keep me updated if you find answers since I also like doing saunas or ice baths

A work around may to increase cold exposure duration without going as low as near-freezing water. Ex: cold shower for 15 minutes vs 5 minute ice bath. Or could exposure out in winter weather with shorts/insulation on around the dick.

Even if the cold exposure isn't as perfect as an ice bath, I think there is a ton of benefits from it.
