Insurance claims of 200k for outpatient titan implant normal?

Postby Wolfrayet1 » Sun Jan 01, 2023 2:35 pm

Seeing very big numbers on my titan implant surgery insurance claims but almost 200k seems extremely high.

There’s one charge over 100k all by itself from the hospital??? For outpatient ip??? Smacks forehead.

If you want to share your bill breakdowns or total costs and whether it was cash pay, supposed to be all in network, or some unknown out of network charges happen please share. A neighbor had open heart surgery for a little over 10k

For up surgery 200k or even 100k seems crazy nuts. All I can think of is double billing.

Shows insurance processed the claims but the detail isn’t available yet showing a breakdown of specific amounts

Dec 31, 2019. I had my LGX installed in Austin. Outpatient at Seton NW. Surgeon was Bryan Kansas.

According to what I could glean from office staff and website, cash self pay would’ve been between $17k and $18k.

Between the hospital, doctor, anesthesiologist, labs, etc the total billed was $53k. The insurance allowed $19k. All parties accepted that as payment in full. Best money I never spent.

It’s a game. Billing 50 to get 20 I can see. Billing 200k for any reason sounds ridiculous. I was playing top chef a while back. Cut the hell outta my thumb. Went to er, got it stitched up. They tried to charge 15,000. My insurance paid them 3500 which I thought was generous. They came after me for remainder, threatening to sue me or report it as a default on my credit report. I sent them a tersely worded cease-and-desist letter which mentioned I thought they had miscoded my injury to fraudulently suck down a larger insurance reimbursement and would sue them in small claims court if they touched my credit report. A month later I got a statement showing the insurance payment as payment in full and zero balance. I love capitalism but medical care quit being capitalism the moment govt got involved. Now it’s a racket which would cheer Chicago mob bosses of the 30s.
Age 68. Physically fit educated red neck in Texas. Very married. 23 cm (18+5) of LGX installed by Dr. Bryan Kansas 12/31/2019. I fought the ED and my wife & I won. I’m either full of shit or sound advice. You decide which.

No Way! And I thought my co-pay of $3,400 was nuts.
Some office person has done some erroneous coding I think!

This is why I have little to zero confidence in the US "healthcare" system.
