Implant failure from the beginning

Postby librariwhs » Thu Dec 15, 2022 12:03 pm

Hi guys. I was implanted on September 21 of this year. I got an AMS 700 LGX. I chose it because I have atrophied quite a bit and need all the help I can get. My experience so far has been disappointing. First, the sutures came loose and that had to be repaired. Then my doctor told me to begin cycling and it will not inflate even a little. On an initial pump the bulb goes flat, and I hear a slight gurgling noise. After that initial pump, the bulb becomes very stiff. I can pump it once and then the bulb stays flat and won't refill. If I hit the release button, the bulb will refill, but no inflation occurs no matter what I do. I went back to my doctor, and he called AMS and got a rep to come and help. Neither of them could get it to work. So, gonna have a revision even before my first erection. This is frustrating. My only blessing is that I haven't gotten an infection. I've been waiting to hear about scheduling the revision and my doctor's scheduler says she is waiting on the rep to reply to her request. My doctor wants him present when the revision occurs. For those of you who have had failures and revisions, i sympathize. I'm not sorry I made the decision to get the surgery, but I should have been good to go by now and I'm not.

Hey I'm sorry you've had so many problems. It does sound like there is a plan and maybe your situation can still work out ok. I really hope so and I hope you can find a way to stay positive! I had mine 8 months ago and it also hasn't gone well. I can get an erection and there's no infection but there's chronic discomfort and pain. It happens to some people but your issues seem more solvable. Best of luck to you!

Oh Damn! Sorry to hear that. Hopefully AMS will pony up and pay for the revision.
Best of luck with everything.

Dammit, didn't the doctor inflate the cylinders after surgery?
I don't like the way it makes me feel about her if he didn't.

tomas1's post makes me suspect the surgeon did not fill the reservoir or that the contents leaked out before your first inflation attempt. I suggest you read the operating report (wherein all the details of the operation, measuring your penis insides, filling the reservoir, inflating the implant, etc should be described). Then you might be able to question the surgeon and the AMS Rep about what went awry.

Good luck

Its not often to fail that quickly. How well did you vet your surgeon? Between Tomas1 & Lost Sheep, they raise some valid concerns in my opinion. I would suggest to ask her some hard questions before the revision.

Sorry to hear that it went wrong from the beginning.
I think it is more on the surgery side, not the device. However, no party would blame the other one in front of you. AMS or Titan are both very well-known devices, but you would really want to make sure that your surgeon is 100% competent. Revisions aren't easy, and if a surgeon could do an initial implant successfully, how would one trust that he/she can perform a revision, which is more complicated, in the best possible way?
I understand that many factors affect your surgeon's selection. Just make sure that you won't get under the same knife, if you don't trust the surgeon's skills and experience.

Ah geeez sorry to hear this FB , I too have a Lgx. And had similar frustration in dr office first time, he had to re set valve buy squeezing valve block and rapidly switching between pump mode and deflation mode with a few pumps between. But of course your Rep knows the trick so damn, sorry no one likes going under the knife twice. Good luck bro.

Wow sorry that is rough. Who was your surgeon?
44, ED problems began around age 28 when I was on finasteride for hair loss, and also got circumcised so I lost a lot of sensation. Pills gave me bad headaches and other side effects. Now using trimix 30/1/20. So far so good.

Im skeptical this was equipment failure because the implant is suppose to be pretested (activated) before they complete the surgery. It sounds like the doctor skipped a step in the verification process, as others have pointed out likely the reservoir was not filled. This is speculation of course but considering how quickly the failure occurred im leaning towards doctor error.
