I am wondering if there are other routes to take, such as taking out a loan for the surgery through other means.
OR (this is definitely not ideal) but I own a rental home and could pull equity out of it to pay for the surgery.
At this point, I know that’s not ideal but I do not care!!!!
I cannot live like this anymore

I hesitate to offer very much financial advice. But in my life I've strived to borrow as seldom as possible & get the lowest interest (cost) that I can. I'm a bargain hunter. Do not quote me, check with your own financial/tax person. I think borrowed money from an investment property is usually about as cheap of borrowed money as you can get. Its considered well secured. The interest paid on the loan might be fully tax deductible where as a medical bill needs to exceed a percentage of your income. Income & costs for rentals are declared on a separate tax form. I forget the form number at the moment.
If a guy is looking to cash pay for his implant. He should do it as wisely as selecting his surgeon. Do your research.

Just an update..

I have my urologist appointment December 21. Based on my lengthy history with ED, plus the fact that medicines aren’t working anymore, I am fully on board with getting an implant, as well as paying out of pocket for it.

Here’s what I’m hoping. He really listens to all of my history regarding my ED and the utter devastation and depression it’s brought into my life and that he sees this surgery as a good plan of action.

I actually have 4 weeks off from work starting at the end of March. I am hoping to be able to get the surgery scheduled during that time and start the process of moving on with my life

Seeing as I have an implant hopefully in my near future, I have read through almost every thread on this forum regarding implants. So much good information here.

I am wondering though, are there any other forums like this one that exist?

Also…. Random question. I know there are a few here that are in the “swinging community” and I myself have been interested in that lifestyle for a while now, but would never feel comfortable doing it or “equipped” given my current ED situation. But I think after I get the
Implant I will revisit the idea. So I’m wondering how swinging has been for you after being implanted.

Hey Brother,

You are at a good spot (3 months prior to when you want your surgery). I would also advise you to use a VED as it will keep your size (maybe increase your size before your implant). This will pull more blood into your penis. Like other guys on here, go see a doctor who does high-volume implant. I saw Dr. Jonathan Clavell (AMAZING Dr) who listened to what I wanted and achieved great results. I am 1.5 years out and the implant gave me so much more than my sex life.

HEY, PLEASE CONSIDER OTHER OPTIONS THAN DR. MATTHEW POLLARD IN NASHVILLE. I HAD THE PROCEDURE BY HIM AND 8 MONTHS LATER I STILL HAVE SIGNIFICANT DAILY DISCOMFORT. Listen I'm not saying not to have the procedure and I can't even say for sure that I wouldn't have some of the same problems even if I had used someone else (although there were some comfirmable mistakes). And perhaps it will go well with him. But I just felt it important, since this is such a big and permanent surgery and since you're still studying your options, to let you know that I had a bad experience with him.

As I understand it Vanderbilt Urology also does a lot of these and then people also speak well of the doctor in Atlanta. Perhaps check out those options too. I wish you the best of luck!

Damn, this really sucks to hear. I meet with him this coming Wednesday.

Thank you for replying though..

May I ask what you think he did specifically that was wrong or could have been done better? You mentioned that you may have had these problems no matter who it was that performed the surgery. So I am just curious if you can give more details.

Thanks.

You're going to love the implant! I'm 32, got mine last year at 31, it has been a blast. As others have said it's so important to get the best and most experienced/skilled doctor you can.

My wife told me in the recovery area that the surgery went well and that I was scheduled to come back in for a follow up in 3 days to see how I was healing and to have the drain tube removed. She also told me that Dr Pollard wouldn't be there and that I would be seeing a different doctor (which was disappointing to hear). After this follow up appt was scheduled, I was told by the hospital staff that I would need to show that I could go to the bathroom before I could be discharged. (This was a same day outpatient procedure). I couldn't pee so the nurse called Dr Pollard for permission to reinsert a catheter that I would go home with. During those 3 days, the catheter became increasingly uncomfortable but I had nothing to compare it with and also didn't know if the discomfort was maybe just from the surgery. When I got to his office 3 days later, they didn't know anything about me having a catheter and they told me I would be seeing a nurse, not a doctor. I stressed that I needed to get this catheter in out soon and that I was very uncomfortable. An aid took me back to a room and told me that I was only there to have the drain tube removed. I insisted I had to be have the catheter out and that I had only received the catheter because I couldn't pee before I left the hospital. Dr Dell later came in (I had said when I first came in that I had an appointment with Dr Dell but I was told that she was in surgery and that I was supposed to see a nurse). She was not very pleasant but in fairness to her, it at first must have looked like I was insisting on something that was against my doctor's wishes. She did take the catheter out. There was an excessive amount of blood that she said was unusual and she was concerned about. She even stepped out and called Dr Pollard (she later commented he wasn't much help). She also said Dr Pollard was going to call me next week (this was a Friday and she either said he'd call on Monday or next week, not sure which one she said). He did not call. The blood in my urine did stop. From what I've read it's not uncommon to have a catheter for a day after the procedure particularly if you stay overnight. But 3 days is not common at all (for this procedure). During those 3 days (days 2 and 3 we're more uncomfortable) I tried to reassure my that, well the doctor knows what he's doing, it must be ok to keep this in for 3 days and maybe this discomfort is normal. But in actuality, the catheter was put back in (at Dr pollard's direction) after my follow up appt was scheduled and he simply forgot to tell anyone and then he was going to be off from work. And my follow up appt date wasn't reassessed after my medical circumstances changed(when I couldn't pee and the decision was made that I would need to go home with a catheter). I think he just totally forgot about it. I now have chronic prostate discomfort like I've never had before the procedure. I've also had ongoing discomfort where the reservoir tube goes up to the abdomen area. Regarding who you choose, there are lots of people saying lots of positive things about other doctors. No one is saying anything about Dr Pollard but me and in 8 months since the procedure, I've had some level of discomfort everyday (minus maybe 10 days of feeling fine). That's why I say be open to other options.

Wow wow wow. That sounds like an absolutely hectic time and situation you had to deal with. I am very sorry you had to go through that. Sounds like a major miscommunication and misstep on the part of the doctor/nurses/staff. Thank you so much for sharing this with me.

I still plan to meet with him Wednesday just to atleast talk about my issues and see what he has to say and if there are any other tests he may want to run on me before I get the surgery. This doesn’t mean I will be getting the surgery from him, just want to finally talk with someone about this in person and get some answers.

Let me ask you this… despite all of that, does your implant work? Are you able to get good erections?

Are you having sex yet?

Whatever else you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you sir for your reply… mind sharing with me more details and the ins and outs/pros and cons of your new found sex life?

I get so excited reading replies like yours because I am so ready to be able to have sex and actually feel like a man again.
