I had my first consultation this week with Dr Dean Knoll in Nashville. Very nice guy and answered all my questions. His insurance girl has been with him 33 years and he's confident that she can use the right codes to get the insurance to pay. This Dr Knoll has done over 7000 implant and AUS surgeries.
I have consultations with 2 other surgeons, but I feel confident that I found my guy with my first consultation. I might go ahead and meet with the other 2 Dr's just to make sure my impression was right about the first Dr.
Nervous, but excited about the future!

Re: First consultation
Good for you! I had 4 different initial consultations set up but after my first one I felt confident enough I just went with him. Decided flying around the country to hear what I already knew just to get more “gut feels” wasn’t productive. Others have found multiple consults valuable.
Me, i just wanted to get on with getting fixed. So far so good.
Keep us posted.

Re: First consultation
I had 3 urology consults with 2 of them doing implants. I went with the 2nd Dr. He was less of a volume implanter than the first consult but I felt better about his explanations, understanding, demeanor, etc.
Zero regrets. Works perfectly.

Re: First consultation
I thought about having multiple consultations, but only had one. I felt very comfortable with my doctor, he was recommended by Coloplast, he works at a Center of Excellence, and I felt he really cared about my concerns going into the procedure. My surgeon also is recommended by Boston Scientific, so I could have chosen their implant over the Titan. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results.
I think multiple consults can be helpful, but in the end it comes down to who you feel most comfortable with. If possible, I would try to have the surgery at a Center of Excellence where a lot of these procedures are done.

Submuscular/ectopic resivour? What is that? I had previously had double hernia surgery with mesh in both sides and they put my resivor just under the top layer of muscle… it stands out like a growth!! About 1-1/2” by 3”. And probably stands out 3/4”. If I was ever in a locker room and people saw me they would never notice my semi erect looking dick but would surely notice my bulge directly under my belt line and about 3-4” to the left of my belly button.
59 years old ED started mid 40s pills failed after 10 years. Injections works but diminishing results with pain. Implanted 5-22 Baylor,Scott, and White Dallas.Dr Michael Wierschem, infrapubic Coloplast with Classic pump 20cm and 1cm RTE. Going strong

Apparently there are a couple different places the surgeon can put the reservoir. The traditional placement I've learned is the retropubic space near the urinary bladder. Some surgeons these days (particulary if that space is compormised due to trauma or prior surgery) elect to put the reservoir between muscle layers of the abdomen to the side which I think is what you're describing yourself. It's actually been the most painful point of my recovery - that effing reservoir site burns and immediately postop hurt like hell. It's mostly better a week out. I can easily palpate it myself on my left lower abdomen.

Re: First consultation
Congrats on that first step! My thought is if you feel confident with him, go for it. Especially if he is the closest doc to you. (I remember you live in a rural area)
For me I met with one doc who did implants, but not many. He referred me to his partner, who does several a week. Felt confident enough to go with him, no regrets.
Insurance will be the hurdle. Good Luck.

Thanks! All 3 doctors are about the same distance from us. 2 in Nashville and 1 in Knoxville. We live right between the 2 cities. I can't find a whole lot of info on the other 2 doctors, but I found a lot if info on the first. I'll sleep on it over the weekend and the wife and I will discuss how to proceed.

That was also the most painful part of my surgery… although it has been 18-20 years since I had the hernia surgery, it still brought back to mind the pain I was in after that surgery. After first 7 days or so it began to get easier to set up from a chair and by 2 weeks it was just tender… at a little over 3 weeks it was just a little discomfort and after a month as now I put my pants right over it and tighten my belt also right over the top… it flattens out when I inflate and bulges when I deflate it.
