Questions for surgeon

I have my first consultation in 3 1/2 weeks. What are some of the best questions to ask at the first consultation? Thanks in advance

1. Ask your doctor if you can spend the night in the hospital, stay, you won't be sorry.

2. Ask your doctor if he prescribes "Pain Meds as needed" for your stay in the hospital, if he does, you will be guaranteed you will make it without any pain.

3. Write out your questions so you don't forget to ask something, they want the visit to be efficient.

What can recovery be like. Will I be inflated after surgery? What can I do to deal with any pain or discomfort? Do I point it up during recovery? How many of these operations have you performed? Do you use dissolvable stitches? When do I start cycling, how often how long? And do I do a cycling regiment for rest of life? How full to inflate.

I would ask about size loss. I would ask if the doctor does repairs and replacement surgery. If not I would ask where the doctor sends men for that surgery and that would be the next place I would be headed. Repairs and replacements are more difficult and if you can you want a doctor that can do them. I would ask to speak with someone the doctor had done the surgery on. Ask about size loss and recovery. There is a paper on the "coffin effect" in the documents worth reading thread in the general discussion section of this forum. The really good doctors have seemed to use this and have activation (start of cycling) in 3 weeks or less. Low volume doctors are usually in the 6-8week range. Ask if you can see a copy of the doctors discharge instructions given to men when they leave the surgery center. An over night stay is best as laying flat as much as you can for the first 3 days is important. Do every thing you can to be ready to stay down and heal. Blood pooling is a cause for infection and be very careful to take it really easy the first 3 days. And use cold packs to reduce swelling. My doctor insisted on NSAIDs (Motrin, ect.) to reduce inflammation. With men searching the web and getting information on what to ask doctors have learned what to say when asked about how many they do and infection rate. No way to confirm that anyway. You can ask but to me I would look at if the doctor does replacement and repair surgery and the length of time after surgery you wait to be activated. Really difficult to know about aggressive sizing also. Doctors can say they do. But talking to a man who the doctor implanted will give you a better answer. My local doctors all said I would have size loss as did men they implanted. And activation was 8 weeks and none of them did repairs or replacements. So I travelled to a doctor that advertised aggressive sizing and spoke to men who had been implanted who verified this and activation was just under 3 weeks. And the doctor had videos of repairs and replacement surgeries.
