UPDATE: 9/20/22. Surgery was at 9:45am. I am now out of surgery and recovering. I have to be honest, I am in excruciating pain. 10/10 pain without very strong pain meds. My surgeon said it went really well, but currently I am in terrible pain and they also had to put my catheter back in because I can’t pee at all. Most likely from the meds.

They want me to stay in inpatient care given my condition and I also don’t want to leave. As of now, this is awful but I’m optimistic it’ll get better.

Thank you

My recovery pain was pretty bad also. But I had narcotic pain reliever that helped tremendously. I will say this though. When the pain started going away, it left quickly. It will get better and in hindsight you will be very happy with the results, and I wouldn't regret any of the consequences of recovery.

I am glad to hear that. They have me on the maximum pain medication they can give. I just tried going for a walk with 2 nurses and it put me to tears. I don’t see myself leaving again today with the shape I’m in. I can’t believe how excruciating this is for me to n comparison to others. Appreciate the kind words, gives me hope.

I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain Minnesota, my surgery team told me you have to stay ahead of the pain, they are always asking what my 1-10 pain level is and if they see it rising they have an as needed order for pain pills from the doctor.

I also had my implant 9/20 at 7:15 PDT at UC Irvine in So Cal by Dr. Yafi. I am in recovery also, my pain has been very manageable. I received 2 OxyContin pain pills when leaving surgery room, in recovery I have been getting 3 Tylenol every 8 hours and took another Oxy pain pill at 10 PM. I have a drain and they have had to drain the reservoir 3 times, lots of blood; hopefully this will keep the swelling down and help the pain. I had a catheter from before the surgery began, I cannot imagine going through this without a catheter, I have had so much IV antibiotics the catheter bag has filled 3 times, I feel a slight irritation at the opening but that is it, very convenient. I also have inflatable leg raps which have been cycling since during the surgery.

Dr. Yafi told me he would see me at 8:30 AM to remove the drain and catheter and I should be discharged. I have an hour and a half ride home so I was told I will get more pain meds before the drive.

All in all the surgery and recovery has gone as I expected. No surprises or disappointments. Dr. Yafi did 4 implants on 9/20 as he does each Tuesday and we are all in private rooms in recovery. I have not spoken to Dr. Yafi since before the surgery, but he called my wife and told her the implant went perfectly an you are both going to enjoy it.

I am very interested in your recovery Minnesota since we share the same implant day.

Holy Crap Minnesota, sorry to hear you're hurting so bad.
My immediate after surgery pain wasn't bad, guess because they gave me so many pain meds I didn't care. The next couple of weeks had me asking doc for stronger pain drugs though.
If they are keeping you in the hospital, you'll be in good hands. Ask for pain meds as needed.
Hope you get better quick.

They also told me about staying ahead of the pain. But they admitted they didn't do a good job at the beginning and we had to play catch up. They were asking my pain level frequently and I was around 7-9 most of the time. They got me down to a 4-5 pain level when I was on high does of oxycodone. I would be miserable without it. I am glad the surgery has went smoothly for you! Keep in touch
