IMPLANT JOURNEY of 27 & 78 Yr Old: Same day Surgery 9/20/2022

Postby Minnesota#2 » Wed Sep 14, 2022 8:07 am

Here is mine and AmansinCali's side-by-side implant journey/journal. We happened to connect on this forum at the very beginning and had the surgery on the very same day. We have been comparing our progress literally since day 1. It has been interesting for the fact that I am 27 years old and he is 78 years old. Throughout this post, I will start each entry with "UPDATE" so anyone wondering what the recovery process is like or maybe even on the fence of having the procedure, maybe this will help especially with the side by side comparison of AmansinCali and I. I found FT very helpful in the beginning, and the education on here is the reason I finally made my decision to get the implant. merrix and his implant journal was incredibly informative and well written.. Highly recommend looking him up and reading his implant journey. Lost sheep is another. All posts are informative, and I suggest reading A LOT. Use the search bar to look for your particular situations.

- ED problems: I’ve posted on this forum my issues with ED that I have had over the past 8-9 years. I’ve tried pills, psychotherapy, long and short term relationships.. Haven’t gotten anywhere which led me to the implant.

- Diagnosis: After having trimex needle in my penis , I had an incredible erection. It was so much that I had to have many shots to counter it because the Doppler ultrasound my surgeon was trying to perform was showing no bloodflow at all, reflecting priapism and obviously a very good venous system. Once it went down some, the doppler was able to be performed and it detected that I have velocity of blood inflow that was 10 cm/s at the very highest (that might be worded wrong but hopefully you get the point)... He said with my health, fitness and age I should be in the 80s.. So 10 is concerning. He even brought in another surgeon to look and they seemed fascinated, which I knew wasn't a good thing lol. For those who don't know, many on this forum have implants due to venous leaks, which the very simple definition is blood leaks out and therefore can't sustain an erection. My problem isn't the leaking out, it's the flow going into the penis that I am having issues with. We are looking into this more for other possible underlying health problems that is causing this. Either way, to fix my issue the implant was the only way to go according to my surgeon.

- Insurance: My surgeon and his team told me they would let me know if they had any issues with my insurance, which I was obviously worried about given it is a $50,000 operation all said and done. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plan if anyone is wondering. I am currently employed with great insurance, but will be self-employed in the near future and will need to hunt down my own insurance. For my current health coverage, I ended up paying maybe $1,000-$1,500 between copays and coinsurance. Add in gas, meals, hotels, medications, etc, definitely thousands but extremely cheap given it was covered and "medically necessary". That being said, I would have gotten this done if I had to take a loan out for it.

- Surgeon & Hospital: My surgery was with Dr. Kohler at Rochester Mayo in Minnesota. He is a highly experienced and high volume surgeon. Sounds like he is one of the best and most experienced. He is on youtube quite a bit with mayo clinic in Rochester, MN. Rated the best in the world every year. It is an amazing place. As much as I don't like hospitals, and as crazy as this sounds, it is like the disney world of hospitals. They are unbelievable there... Anyway, I felt very comfortable with him doing the work.

As I said I am 27 years old and otherwise very healthy and fit. 3 failed relationships later and I am ready to finally take action. Not blaming my ed for my failed relationships, but definitely contributed to it. I was once very confident and good in bed until issues showed up my senior year in high school. Finally ready to “fix” the problem.

Any advice and tips on surgery recovery and also positive stories and words are encouraged! I will share my implant journey on here going forward. Again, those who are on the fence with an implant, I found it helpful looking at peoples journals on here and hopefully mine can be of help as well.

Best,

Good Luck! All I can say is once you heal up you will love having the implant. It's a total life changing experience that should boost your confidence and ego.
My recovery was tough, but since you're so much younger I doubt you'll have issues. Most say ice bags on the scrotum for the first few days will help with swelling and soreness. If doc gives you pain meds use them as needed. Once the stitches are healed and doc clears you to bathe, a hot bath can help ease soreness.

You will be sore, but in about four weeks, you will or should be healed up. You will never regret it, I can assure you. I took action right away when I was told I would probably suffer from ED when I had my prostrate removed. Being that I was very sexually active I wasted no time making my decision to go with an implant because I did not like needles poking my dick. It was the best decision I could have made. I still at my age enjoy sex with the implant and highly recommend the surgery. It made me feel like a man again :D

Hey Minnesota,
You and I are about to be brothers, I too am going to be implanted on 9/20/22, but the major difference is I am 77 years old. It will be very interesting to track and compare our healing, I will be watching for your posts. My surgeon is Dr. Yafi at UC Irvine in Southern California and I am also getting the Coloplast Titan.
Used Viagra & Cialis until lost vision in one eye due to AION, therefore can never use pills again, then tri-mix 1 1/2 years until unreliable. Implanted 9/20/22 at 77 years old by Dr. Yafi, UC Irvine. Married 55 years wife 76. 20cm Coloplast Titan.

Thank you all for your feedback. Today 09/19/2022 I had my doppler. Essentially what I have going on is the complete opposite of a venous leak. With the injection today, it gave me priapism. It was awful. It took 3 hours and 4 shots of phenylephrine and it finally went away. My surgeon said that for my age and health, it was very rare that my bloodflow was so low going into my penis. All bloodwork looked normal. May need to see a cardiologist but for now we still are going with the surgery to fix the ED. I can't remember how he described it exactly but at my age of 27 years old and fitness he said I should be in the 80s for inflow and my peak during the doppler was a 10.. So something is obviously going on given I am 8x lower than what is normal for my age/health.

I am hoping for a good outcome tomorrow. Report for surgery at 9:00am. Very nervous especially after my bad experience today and also my blood flow problem.

Be sure to ice the puppies down during the next few weeks.

Do you have a pre-op stats, like length and girth?
