Having an implant with an autoimmune disease?

Postby ScrewedbyDoctors » Thu Jun 30, 2022 10:18 am

I have Ulcerative Colitis for 20 years, is not causing major issues but is still an autoimmune disease. I'm afraid to install an implant because of my condition, the chances for an infection are probably higher, the Doctor told me that there is not a problem but I can't trust him based of my previous experiences with Doctors, they just want to make money. I feel like the implant is my only hope but I'm really afraid of the possible consequences
I had a trauma 2 years ago, caused me narrowing, dent and shortening. PRP injections three months ago=worse narrowing, and worse ED. Now I only have two choices: impotent or implant. Born in 1975, in a relationship with girlfriend fir 4 years

Hey man,

I don’t know your situation or your doctor you’re going with. My advice would be to consult with a top doctor. Even if you do not go with them for surgery, you should ask a top doctor these questions and get their advice, I think that would be very important.

Hey Screwed, You must have had some really bad experiences to have such a User ID. That has to be the worst, but if you feel this way it is up to you to search out the best doctors you can. You should not be going to any doctor who gives you the impression he is only in it for the money. Don’t be afraid to fire your doctor and move on. The easiest way is to talk to your friends and ask about their doctors. I had to fire two doctors to get to where I am now, my doctor is extremely well thought of in my community, when friends complain about their doctor I suggest they try my doctor, it takes over a year to get an appointment with him, he takes new patients only once a year. Everyone I have sent to him raves about him. The other great thing about him is he is well respected by the local doctors and every referral to specialists I have received from him have been outstanding doctors.

My advice is to find a new doctor you like then fire the one you think is only in it for the money.

I have ulcerative colitis. Men do experience ED because when the guts are inflamed it can pinch nerves leading to the penis. Also the inflammation can cause a serious amount of stress which also causes ED. I had my IPP implant done long after I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I had a total Colectomy done about 1.5 years ago and now use a ilostomy bag. I started to notice the left tip of my implant was cutting into my penis head and causing pain and erosion. I had a revision to correct this after my total Colectomy.

So the time line was 2012 ulcerative colitis diagnosed. 2018 IPP implant. 2020 total Colectomy. 2021 IPP revision. I didn’t get an infection from any of the surgeries. I have two more surgeries scheduled to reconnect my small intestine to my anus. I’m hoping it goes well. I had to have my colon removed in order to live and I had to have a implant done in order to want to live.

I have an autoimmune disease, Wegeners aka GPA (treated twice a year with Rituxin). I’m also a type 2 diabetic that uses insulin. Added to this, I can’t urinate naturally so must use catheters 6-7 times per day.
All of these leave me very susceptible to infections. The doctor choose the LGX because it is known to resist infections the best.
I have not had any bladder or other related infections since the implant was done onnAugust 1.
