Revision and Failure Rate

Postby Injustright » Fri Jun 17, 2022 4:02 pm

Has anyone here actually run across data on the percentage of implants that need revisions or replacements? Not anecdotes, but genuine, scientific studies? Reading on the site long enough is sufficient to convince a reader that every man ends up with three or more surgeries in a short amount of time, but there have to be many more men who have no problems but don't log on to a site such as this one to discuss the lack of issues.
Decades+ ED; finally ultrasound showed venous leak+arterial insufficiency. Infrapubic (Yay!) implant by Dr. Karpman 8/9/22; with 13 cm distal, 9 proximal Titan. Cleared for new life 9/1/22 and hoping to make up for lost time.

Not sure that this will answer your question. I've received private messages from 3 men in my area. All three are happy, no revisions were needed. I think that they check the forum occassionally but seldom post now.
If I remember correctly. Two different surgeons were involved. One is moderately known, the other isn't. I think they might even be friends. They both do around 150 implants a year.
As per common statements. Happy men see no need to post their results. Only my experience & btw I live in a very sparsely populated area of the USA.
I suspect that other long time members might have similar stories to mine. Hopefully they'll share if they do. I haven't heard of a study like you seek. But please remember that studies can only look at history. Sometimes that history is old. So the results don't reflect improvements in what I feel is a rapidly evolving surgery arena. Also, the quality of the surgeon won't likely be judged. Meaning a dr doing badly a few implants a year can be included & throw the results way off.
