International Flight - Week after Surgery

Postby Endoftheline » Mon Jun 13, 2022 2:31 pm

Would it be unreasonable to fly back a week after my procedure? Dr Eid claims that it should be fine but its going to be 2 7 hour flights back home, with a couple of layovers in between (3 hours or so). will i regret flying back so soon? its a matter of comfort vs budgetary constraints.

should i stay in the US until the risk period for infection has passed? that would be a full month since week 3 is the riskiest period where most infections show themselves.

my date is fast approaching and the anxiety is eating me up!

That's quite soon after a surgery. You're younger and should heal quick, but the first 2-3 weeks are the toughest. If you can afford to stay longer I sure would. At one week I was still walking slow and sore.

Yes better to take time to heal and leave. Never know what might happen. Dont take the risk. You spent so much on the surgery as well spend bit more. Is it infrapubic or prescrotal( as this takes more time to heal more infection possibility)..

These concerns are for myself also.

I'm traveling from Tokyo, arriving to see Clavell in Houston on Aug 1. Surgery Aug 3. Leaving on Aug 6th. Was told that I'll have painkillers and that this will make travel easier since it's so soon after surgery. Return flight is 13 hours, and I got the direct flight (these flights could easily take 20 to 25 hours or longer w/ layovers if not direct).

Was also told infections could happen six weeks or longer after surgery. That said, I have faith many of these surgeons are good enough to completely avoid infections.

One thing for certain, it'll be one heII of a summer.

Edit: Just to add, I'll be requesting extra pain killers for the return flight back.

Why didnt you pick a surgeon in california? Itll be a much shorter flight.

Just my novice experience. I went into OR around 10:30 AM and by 3:30 PM I was back in my hotel room. Spent that night got up and drove myself home (220 miles) without difficulty. Acknowledge we are all different and circumstances drive our personal decisions. For me, the pain medication administered for the procedure was effective for @ 2 1/2 days at which time I started using OTC (motrin). To "stay ahead" of the increasing pain I wasted no time starting moderate pain meds as soon as I thought OTC was losing effect. I only use strongest pain meds at night time . Again, personal decision. The comments "ice, ice, ice" are well founded! At day 14, I have very high sensitivity at left testicle which I believe is due to pump presence on that side. One suggestion: were I traveling long distance via plane I am thinking I'd purchase an ice bag at the pharmacy to take, empty on board. Would have hostess fill bag with ice, place handtowel on seat and place bag between legs. Cold will radiate through pants material and you can cover with a light blanket. Hope that makes sense. Best of luck to everyone.
Second IPP Titan / Genesis. Experienced pretty much everything negative up to implant. Lost @ 2 inches from plication and atrophy. Willing to show and tell just an ordinary penis. Wish I had IPP much sooner.

Although everyone heals differently, flying 27 hours with layovers is too difficult one week only after implant. You may not get an immediate negative effect on the implant but sitting these long hours will cause more swelling and delay your healing, unless you are travelling business or first class, where you can lay down flat.
I wouldn't concern about an infection possibility. With high-volume doctors like Eid, infection isn't likely to happen if you follow his directions religiously.

At 29yo, you should be able to do it. It wouldnt be fun, but if you have your meds and can manage to ice it during your layovers then you should be fine.

For example, I was 34yo at my first implant and here is what I did on day 6..

-Took kids to barber, son and I got a haircut
-Took daughter to outdoor mall, carried her most of the time, got ice cream w her
-Rode a bike w daughter, was tough to sit on seat without pump interfering, I didnt test it too much
-Went on a short 1-2 mile hike, daughter on shoulders or in arms 80% of it
-Mowed
-Shot around (basketball) for 10 minutes

At the end of the day though, I'd take your doctors advice. They get a lot of international patients and would know best.

when I had mine done by Dr Eid, I was fine nearly overnight -- the man is a miraculous surgeon! If he says you can do it, I would absolutely trust his opinion.

I only had about a 2 hour flight home 2 days later but I am sure I could have handled the flights you have a week later. And I am 75!

As always, I must qualify that this was just my personal experience fwiw. All the best to you.
75, used pills, injections -- all lost effectiveness. Titan implanted by Eid in Feb '22.
