Surgery pain

Postby iwantanewone » Mon May 23, 2022 4:41 pm

Hey guys… Another question… I’m seven days post surgery… Penoscrotal incision with a little scrotoplasty… AMS 700 CX… I am still in so much pain… I am not taking narcotics but my prescribed medication and all of my antibiotics… I really cannot sit on the couch or chairs… My most comfortable place is in bed… I do get up and walk and walk for 15 or 20 minutes not so bad… The scrotum and testicles are still swollen and of course the penis is throbbing being 60% inflated and getting used to the new cylinders…But, it seems like from what I’ve read most people say it’s 3 to 5 days of pain and just being uncomfortable and I am more than comfortable… I have not called my surgeon yet… I can anytime but if this is normal and I just had expectations of a shorter timeframe of pain but I hate to bother him… Any thoughts or ideas from people that remember… I don’t think I feel that much better that I did on day two or three… Or is it on day 10 through 14 I’m going to turn the corner and feel substantially better… Ideas? Thanks for the input!

I stayed abed pretty much 95% for almost two weeks. (Because I could.) The longer you stay horizontal the easier it is to get vertical for periods of time.

I stayed out of work for 3 weeks (though I could have gone back after two) because I had the leave time available. Quicker and more comfortable recovery at home.

I expect your experience is matching mine, day for day. Some guys get back to normal quicker and some take longer. I believe you are within the normal range of healing rates.

Thank you lost sheep! Always appreciate your knowledge… It seems that a lot of people post that they are kind of breezing through this so I’m a little worried that I’m not breezing through this… But I wasn’t going to get too concerned until 10 to 14 days… But thanks for your quick reply

Are you using a lot of ice? That really helps. I had a lot of swelling and discomfort. Ice helped manage a lot of that. After a week or so I started alternating between I've and heat. The heat felt great. Used a heating pad. Seemed to heal me be more comfortable. Might give it a try.

Hey Pal~

You should feel "uncomfortable" but not "painful." Its a big surgery - but trust me, the uncomfortable is worth the end result. I too have the AMS700 CX. The pain was manageable non-narcotic (Advil) and alot of frozen peas to keep swelling down. When the gauze was removed and I got out of the damn uncomfortable semi-erect state and jock strap - I noted a big relief. Week 1-3 are the worst. It does subside. TRUST ME. Happy to talk = PM me if you'd like. Hang in there. DO NOT overdo it.

I am a little over 4 months after surgery. I had no trouble walking after surgery. I was up on day 3 and walked a mile to the grocery store, although not my usual pace.. Don’t push yourself to hurt yourself, although I think it is better for your body getting up and moving around as much as you can. You are going to experience pain the first 2-3 months most likely. Pain in the shaft, pain with cycling, pain in your testicle manipulating the pump. You are in for a journey the next 6-12 weeks I was never in extreme pain, although I was uncomfortable almost constantly for two months. No underwear seemed to work well. I was uncomfortable sitting in one position. Walking after awhile would make something sore, either the shaft or the testicle. Even sleeping if you roll over, you now have a 5-6” basically constantly semi erect penis filled with tubes to deal with. By the end of the day my testicle would be so sore I would sit on the edge of a kitchen chair with them off the edge so there was no pressure. For two months if I sneezed I thought I was going to eject the reservoir. I was cleared for sex after 6 weeks- but the first couple attempts were so painful it was not worth it, although I was able to ejaculate. I pretty much avoided sex until 8-9 weeks, while cycling everyday to the max. By the 8-9 week point, I still had some pain with sex, but the pain was bearable. By 3 months the sneezing stopped hurting and sex was mostly pain free. I am a little over 4 months out now and I can pump to the max, bend it, have sex for an hour, take a coffee break and have sex for another hour. Basically no pain whatsoever. My pump is still a bit stiff, so squeezing that to inflate for cycling or sex a couple times a day will make your testicle a little sore. I have been told it can take 6-8 months for the pump to soften more and it eventually gets easier to work. I am back at the gym, I am working out with about 75% of my pre surgery weights. I am even doing full squats now. I started running again at 12 weeks out and do about 2 miles 3 times a week, causes me no issues. I occasionally have a little discomfort in my testicle, but I think my pump is a bit low and rubs on the bottom at times. This is nothing more than occasionally annoying and like the rest of the journey I expect that will go away in the coming months. Take your Ibuprofen, get up and walk, cycle religiously when your doctor tells you to start. In a couple months this phase will all be history and you will love it.

Thank you elrev for your very detailed reply… I really appreciate it… It’s a little scary to think of this continuing for 3 to 4 months but there’s really no choice now… I am most comfortable lying in bed and I am not at two weeks yet so that seems to be acceptable though I do get up and walk around the house… Everything just feels very tight and wants to be left alone… As you said if I sit on the sofa or something there’s pressure so I think it’s better to stay in bed and try and eliminate the swelling and pressure that comes from sitting… I tried sitting in my office chair and you’re right the testicles need to hang off of the chair but I was not able to sit there very long… I’m hoping that each week improves…For some reason I am hoping that at the second week of 14 days things seem a little better and I can get going again… I’m trying to figure out how to put underwear on and not hurt myself with a semi erect penis to be able to get out and about in front of people maybe by the third week… But I’m glad you’re doing well and I was Happy to read a detailed timeline and no I was hoping for sooner than 3 to 4 months but that’s what I’ll take it that’s what it is… Wishing you continued success and happiness and to be pain-free!

Everybody’s body is different and healing times vary. People’s pain tolerance is also different. Some guys have experienced a lot worse than implant surgery, so in comparison it could be a walk in the park. I don’t like taking medication I don’t need, so I never took any pain meds after surgery. Not even Ibuprofen. I just toughed it out. Talk with your doctor, but I believe you should begin to start cycling and moving it around soon. Even if it is painful, you will just have to work through it. From what I understand you don’t want to wait too long and let scar tissue to set, I believe this is what causes even more pain later and makes it harder to get back to your max size. I made the mistake of not bending mine upward the first few weeks, so when I finally did it was tougher to get used to than it should have been. When you are cleared to cycle, I did it the first few weeks in a hot shower. I would just pump it as much as a I could and leave it for as long as I could stand until I got tears in my eyes. Cycling the first few weeks is not fun stretching things out, but if you avoid it, you will likely just make it worse later on. Who was your doctor and what implant did you get?
