Sneezing

Postby iwantanewone » Mon May 23, 2022 12:23 pm

New question Guys…..I’m one week post surgery and I’m a heavy sneezer and have not sneezed yet… I’m petrified! Has anyone sneezed and had a problem with their reservoir or parts after sneezing? Sometimes I can sneeze five times… I’m feeling lucky so far but like a sneezes on the way… One of the many concerns of IPP surgery…

I forgot To ask if anyone knows of the chances of popping the reservoir from sneezing…
Thanks for the replies that information…

It did hurt some, but not bad. Of course, I think having an abdominal incision made it a little worse.

Do not try to suppress the sneeze if it is truly inevitable. Just let it out as smoothly and with as little resistance as possible.

Sneezes are generally caused by a tickle in the nose/sinuses, bronchi (which you probably already knew, but I am trying to cover all bases). So reducing those sensations would help (by whatever means necessary). Do you irrigate your nostrils (look up "neti pot")?

One method without scientific basis (that I know of) but enough statistical evidence to be proven is, when you first feel a sneeze coming on, press inward on the tip of your nose. I, and my others, find this works if you do it early enough. I don't know how it works, but it does.

An internet search revealed this method I never heard of:

You may be able to stop a sneeze by tickling the roof of your mouth with your tongue. After about 5 to 10 seconds, the urge to sneeze may dissipate. Another tongue method involves pressing your tongue hard against your two front teeth until the urge to sneeze passes

And nine others are here:

Edited to add some encouraging words:
At one week post-op, your incisions are partly healed, so probably able to withstand a little more pressure (or a lot more) than one day post-op. So, take heart. The most dangerous period is past. Keep up the good work avoiding coughing and sneezing until your abdomen is pain-free and you are able to do sit-ups comfortably and I think at that point you need not worry. Take the sneeze avoidance lessons learned now into your future.

The implant is not that delicate, it is designed to last for years and thousands of cycles, once you heal you can grab it, bend it, practically tie it in a knot. Your partner can sit on it and bounce up and down...for an hour. Sneezing is not going to hurt the implant; However, that being said, it was uncomfortable sneezing and coughing hard for a couple months after surgery. You will heal eventually.
Age 54, venous leak and some scarring, tried daily/occasional Cialis for awhile then a few months various doses of tri/quad mix. Either helped and would produce 50-60%.erections, but never really full. Implanted 1/20/22 26cm” Titan- Dr. Hakky

Oh wow, another thing to worry about. I get sneezing fits that last for 20 minutes. Hundreds of sneezes in a row that are totally impossible to stop.

This reminds me of when I had open heart surgery. They warned me about coughing and gave me a pillow to hold against my chest when I coughed. Noone told me about the sneeze and it was worse. First time I felt one coming on I was like Oh crap! Like someone else said. Just let it out

From what I know the reservoir pouch is very tough and I doubt a sneeze would break it. However, it may be possible to have it move after a hard sneeze until everything is healed around it. Keep a tissue or hanky nearby!
