Does anyone know the course of treatment if you get an infection after having implant surgery? Do you just take antibiotics? Does the implant have to be immediately removed and replaced? I know the infection rate is low but would like info in case I am in the unlucky 1% or less?
Thanks for any replies!

In nearly all cases its either a salvage or removal, usually the latter.
6 Months without an IPP, maybe a malleable if you are lucky.
If you are very lucky, antibiotics may clear it but needs to be caught very early and is unlikely.

Is it almost guaranteed that one will lose size after an infection?

Do you realize you have a better chance of winning the Powerball than picking up an infection?
TRULY - I wouldn't worry about the "what if" along with the Comedy Central inputs that will tell you anything (typically not reliable).
The fact of the matter is, and the science and journals validate, infection rates are low.
Concentrate on the end-state of the implant (a functional wee wee) - NOT the "what ifs" and uninformed inputs.

Very minimal risk of infection as long as you do what the doctor orders. That is usually a Hibiclens wash for two days prior. Aftercare is keeping the incision clean and dry. The Titan model has antibiotic impregnated on the cylinders as well.

Agree that infection rates are comparatively low at between 1 and 3 % ( depending on surgeon and individual ) but I wouldn’t get on a a plane if the chance of it crashing was 2% and I very much doubt anyone else would either so there although the % is low the risk is high on relative terms.

You need to take antibiotics before any tooth surgery after you have your implant. This I true with any implant like hip or knee. My friend had dental work the caused an infection, 2 days later his balls we're the size of oranges. He had to have his 4 year old implant removed and replaced.

Wow, that's good to know.
My dad died after a tooth extraction in 1943. Penicillin wasn't available due to the war.
He had rheumatic fever as a kid and that got him; very similar to Bobby Darin.

Typical outcome of a plane crash is far more serious than that of an infection. Infections can be easily treated. In fact most members have not had their implant removed if infected. Plane crashes on the other hand .........

Is this also true if you get a tooth abscess? I had one where two different antibiotics were ineffective and had to have the tooth pulled. I'm on immunosuppressive drugs that probably affected the antibiotics.
I have bad teeth and I know I'll need dental implants and possibly other work, so maybe I should just forget about an implant.
