Stroke Victim / Implant Possibility?

Postby Steve5231 » Mon Feb 21, 2022 6:04 pm

I had my first stroke 5-1/2 years ago. Had my 2nd stroke 6 months ago. Had my 3rd stroke 2 weeks ago. All 3 left me with a slight speech impediment which I've been able to overcome to some degree.

My question is this... Have any of you gone through this before and were you able to find a surgeon that would perform the implant surgery? I am on Brilinta blood thinner but remain hopeful. I really want to get an implant so I can feel good about myself again and satisfy my wife. I've gone through all the bills and injections, but they have all failed over time.

Thoughts/suggestions?

I had a stroke (brainstem embolism) prior to my implant in 2008. There was no issue with regard to the surgery, but unfortunately the stroke, among other things, completely wiped out my libido. By the time I had healed from the surgery I had not even the slightest desire for sex or any form of intimacy. My wife was through with sex by that time, so we have been entirely platonic since before my implant. There's no reason to expect your experience will be like mine, and I certainly hope it won't be. Even though I have all my faculties, the stroke basically ruined my life, with loss of libido being the least of my issues. PM me if you have any questions, and good luck to you.

My real concern is whether or not any surgeon would let me go off the blood thinner.

I would think yes - I had bypass surgery last year and my cardiologist approved stopping Eliquis for three days with no problems.
