Waiting for time to pass, see Doc middle of Feb, pump bulb extremely rigid. My question is does the AMS bulb have a lockout function to keep the pump from being used. Does the deflate button have to be pushed and reset before trying to pump the bulb.? Does the AMS pump have a pressure relief system built in.?
Last question is there a customer support system for information and questions from Boston Scientific or AMS.?
Thanks

The lock out function is to prevent auto inflation. Once the deflate button is properly activated fluid can only go one direction. That is back into the reservoir. This does not prevent the pump from being used. As far as reset that would be no and in most cases yes for us. Sometimes men will pump up a little and then later pump up more for a number of reasons. Once in inflate mode you can partially inflate and then inflate more with out resetting or pushing the deflate button to activate deflate mode. This also locks fluid from going back into the reservoir. But for the purpose of activation and cycling men will inflate for a prescribed amount of time and then deflate. There is a pressure relief system and if you continue to pump (called forced pumping) past a set point ther is a bypass to prevent excessive cylinder pressure.
Now the important part is that the pump is made to last for a long time and is self-lubricating. It will be very stiff in the beginning. Like ice packs being your friend post-surgery heat will be your friend post activation. I used a heating pad. That is dry heat. Some use a hot bath. I was activated at 19 days and not cleared for baths and had a long incision from scrotal plasty. The bulb is stiff but will soften with use and heat. The valve switching will also be stiff until self-lubricated from use and heat helps also.
In my AMS packet I have a user DVD. If you have one you can spend some time watching it. It has a bunch of information and "fixes" if you have problems. That DVD is also online if you can't locate it at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwp0YfSLxIU My implant and documents are 4 years old so it is possible that there is a lock out that I do not know about as per the above post. But that procedure is the same as if the bulb goes flat and will not pump as listed in my DVD and the one in the link I posted above. If the bulb is round and hard it would be full and not need to refill.
Check your packet for information for your AMS patient liaison. If you do not have anything you can call the 800 number on your card. This is just to keep in mind if you have trouble and need help. Most times it will take up to a week for them to get back to you if you have trouble and your doctor will be your first contact on problems. Your card will have MRI conditional information and should have your device information and serial numbers. If you do not have those you can ask your doctor and if that does not help, try the hospital for records. AMS may take a while to get it to you as the reps are very busy it seems.
Best of luck and I hope this helps.
