Implanted 1/20/22 with Dr. Hakky.-daily update.

Postby Elyrev » Thu Jan 20, 2022 4:26 pm

My procedure was this morning. Dr. Hakky- the whole staff are great and eased my anxiety during the prep. I am 54, 6 ‘ 160lbs, decent shape, no other health issues. Ultrasound showed some scarring and plaque in my veins. Struggled with pills and injections for almost 2 years. Both of these certainly helped, but never full erections. I decided to take the plunge even though I had some limited function left. Dr Hakky left me 60% inflated, wrapped like a mummy with just the tip bare I took a 3 hour nap as soon as I got home. I have now been able to walk around and sit, no discomfort really at all, so far Except urinating is kind of like peeing straight tobasco sauce. Would appreciate any helpful information from those who have gone before me to make the next few weeks easier. I will also post some updates for those thinking about this. Cheers— keeping my fingers crossed.

Update 2nd Day: I am approx 24 hours post op now. I am surprisingly with no pain. I have not taken any pain meds or needed ice to this point. I am able to walk around the house, albeit slowly kind of shuffling, sit in a chair or lay down. Other than some burning sensation when urinating, I feel very comfortable. The burning pain when urinating is also much less than yesterday. I have been reading franktalk for a couple months and some of the complications and complaints about unbearable pain had me really nervous. I am assuming some of that will come later, when Dr. Hakky unwraps and disturbs everything and cycles me on my follow up appointment Monday

Update 3rd Day: I feel amazingly fine. I have not taken any pain medication at all or used ice. I have experienced a few twinges of pain getting in and out of bed when you need to use your ab muscles to sit up, otherwise I only feel like something has been done, but have no real discomfort or pain at all. I have been able to walk around the house normally, ,cook, whatever. The burning sensation when urinating has relieved. The biggest trick is trying to hit the toilet with your penis wrapped and sticking straight out.

Update 4th day: Not much change I am able to walk pretty much normally now. Easier to move around transitioning out of bed or a chair. I got urinating down with your penis stuck out straight finally, start 3’ away and shuffle forward toward the end. And keep a cloth handy for the last bit, shaking is out of the question. I had a couple spasms of pain in the shaft last night as I got into bed, but it subsided in about 5 minutes. Not enough to take any pain meds for. I still have not needed any ibuprofen or ice. I am going to venture out this afternoon and walk about two blocks from my Airbnb to a bookstore down the street. Just to get out of the apartment for a couple hours.

Update Day 5: Had a follow up visit with Dr. Hakky this morning. My drain tube was removed. He deflated me and showed me a bit about the pump and how to locate the deflate button. I didn’t want to mess around with it too much yet, mostly out of fear of causing pain, not actual pain. He said I should start pulling on the pump everyday and to bend the shaft in different directions from time to time to prevent the penis from possibly healing in one direction. I should start cycling about day ten. I walked about 1/2 mile each way to the appointment. Since coming home I have been able to bend the shaft to each side and up and down, feels a bit weird and stiff, but I have virtually no pain. A small twinge here or there, but I have hurt worse from injections or accidentally pulling a pubic hair out with a cock ring. The most uncomfortable part so far was removing the drain tube, that hurt a bit. I have not needed any pain medication at all since the procedure was done, I have never really felt uncomfortable. I have been cleared to take a shower, welcome after a few days. I have an appointment tomorrow with a patient advocate to fully go over how to use the pump, etc.

6th Day- no update.

7th Day- Met with a representative of coloplast at Dr. Hakky’s office on Tuesday morning, this man also has an implant and went over and showed me how to work everything. I pumped up to 50% and deflated a couple times, still without much pain to speak of. i then made the 6 hour drive home. The car ride was a bit uncomfortable at times- I blame the Georgia, SC and NC DOT’s for allowing any bumps on our highways. So last night was the first time I had much discomfort, some pain in the shaft probably from working it at the appointment then bouncing around on the way home. It has subsided today and I am quite comfortable. Just hanging around my house today not doing much.

I took your advice and filled out my signature. Thank-you, I am still nervous what the coming weeks will bring. But I updated my post and I have been up and around some this evening already with really no discomfort yet. I think the block from the procedure may be helping. Thank-you for your reply.

Thank-you. Most nervous I had been in my life going in this morning. So far it has been easier than I feared. I am more than 12-hrs post op as of now. Walked around- albeit slowly, sat normally in a chair, had dinner. I am still not experiencing any pain, except the two times I had to urinate, pretty strong burning sensation.

Dr Hakky did my procedure as well, he is the BEST!

The peeing will hurt for a few days—it was probably the biggest hurdle for me that first week. Other than that, stay flat, ice ice ice, and rest up.

Thank-you. Yes, even this morning the urinating was better, but still not comfortable. I am normally a 5-6 cup a day coffee drinker...I am going to cut back to just a cup or two until this burning sensation goes away. LOL. I am blessed so far-I am about 20-21 hrs post op at this point, have not taken any pain medication-ibuprofen or the oxy they gave me. I have really not felt any discomfort. I am able to get up walk around the house a bit, lay down, sit in a chair. Hopefully this lasts, although I am likely up for some challenges in the next few days.

I'm assuming you're in Atlanta. If not, how did you did drive or fly? Was it very uncomfortable?

I am from Raleigh. This is my second time down. I came in October for an initial appointment with Dr. Hakky I drove both times, only 5-6 hour drive. This trip I came a couple days early, had a pre appointment with Dr. Hakky on Wednesday then surgery Thursday morning. I am staying in an Airbnb 1/2 mile from his office. I actually walked to my appointments. (Although did not walk bask after the surgery, LOL). I am staying until next week, have a follow up appointment with Dr. Hakky Monday and will get my drain tube removed. Then an appointment Tuesday with a patient advocate, a man who already has an implant and will go through everything with me. I will start heading home Tuesday afternoon. If I have any problems, I will ride as long as I can and stop to a hotel. Splitting the trip to two days if need be.
