Pre-op implant surgery shaving

Pre-Op Implant Shaving

I have implant surgery scheduled in early January. My surgeon requests that I do my own pre-op shaving of the pubic area and scrotum, which is no problem. My question is for those who have been through this (or if the nurses did it), do you shave down in the folds between the legs and the scrotum? I can imagine that it will be quite itchy when the hair starts growing back in when the legs move, but I'll do whatever is best for the operation. The surgery video I've watched shows that area draped, so I can not determine the extent. Thank you for any comments.

Hi oldog,
For the surgeries I've had if shaving was mentioned it was DON'T. Their shavers will not cause irritation which they said increased chance of infection.

That is very odd. My surgeon and other's surgeons insist on patients NOT shaving the area because of infection risks. Not only that but some have been turned away from their surgery because they did 'it' themselves.
You might get itchy a few days after shaving but you get used to it

My surgeon also told me not to shave.
I also remembered no itching afterwards.

That is strange. I asked if I needed to shave before my surgery and was told no. I don't know what they used on me during surgery, but I was hairless afterwards.

My uro didn't say anything about shaving or not, so i trimmed it really short and after surgery i was only shaved where they had to make incisions. I didn't shave myself cause the norm on FT was they were told not to by surgeon.

My surgeon told me not to shave within a week before surgery. I think he was concerned that I might leave an open wound that could be infected. He didn't ask me to shave, just not to shave too close before the operation. I tend to like being shaved, so my pubes were short, but I didn't shave during the last week. When I got out of surgery, I could tell they had done some shaving close the the incision and around my shaft. I did infrapubic surgery, so the incision was on my abdomen, just above my dick.

Dr. Perito told me to stop shaving down there before surgery like others due to possible infection. They took care of everything and I have never suffered from itching growing back.

Well one thing is sure. If you shave you might shave more areas than they need shaved. I would suggest letting them do it. Its not like they charge extra for the shaving.
