Had my first revision done tuesday-update

Postby Macdawgg » Wed Jul 21, 2021 10:06 pm

Hi Gent's I got the AMS700 LGX implant about four months ago and all was going well until I developed an infection. It's been four months to the day that I had it implanted and I noticed a few weeks ago that my scrotum was swollen the size of a small baseball and I developed chills like the flu. I called my urologist and he prescribed an antibiotic which seemed to clear the infection but I felt this mass of tissue on one side so my dr. said it would be best to do a revision. Well he told me that there was a mass of pus that I was feeling and it was around the bulb and some other parts. So he removed the device but left the rods in and said he didn't want to put in a new device just yet but wanted to send the culture out to the lab to see exactly what was causing this pus and if he put in another device now and it got infected it would be game over! So I'm scheduled for a third operation where he could put the device back in after he gets lab results back and I heal. Stay tuned!

Hey MacDawgg,
Sorry to hear that you got infection, but the good news it is treated successfully. Also your doctor seems to be in control of it.
Hope that the culture result comes out all clear, and you get the new implant in place soon.

So he left the cylinders in place ? Hopefully the cultures come back clear and you get the revision soon. For me I had an infection and my original dr decided to only take out the pump , reservor and change one side cylinder but left the other one in place because it didn’t look infected. I continued to have an infection and had to have two more surgeries to deal with it. Ultimately the new dr rhat I have took out the other cylinder because it was infected as well. I was told by my dr that I have now , when you have an infected implant they need to take out the whole thing because the infection will cling to the material and no antibiotics will kill it and it will spread down on the outside of the tubing.

I know that these 3-piece implants come in Preconnected and non-connected states. If someone has the preconnected, which I believe most of us do, how would the surgeon remove only the pump? And when reinstalling, would the surgeon remove the whole thing or there is a possibility, for example, to leave the reservoir in place?

For me, I had started with the AMS, then went to Titan malleable, then Titan 3-piece.
After I was infected, Dr. Kramer took out everything!, then put in Malleable. 3 months later, 3 piece.

With the preconnected ones, the connecting tubing can be cut and spliced.

Actually he took out everything but the rods. I have an apt. on the 4th of Aug. And we'll go from there. I asked him about the titan and he said it wasn't as good as the AMS that the Titan felt more like plastic where the AMS feels more natural. Not sure if he was feeding me a line but for now I'm sticking with the AMS. Hopefully I don't get another infection!

Doctors have different opinions and preferences between AMS and Titan. Eid and Hakky advocate Titan, and I can see that most of their patients get it, specially Eid. I didn't see a patient of Eid with AMS on this forum. Maybe there is, but I didn't notice.
Revisions are more complicated than first time implants. If you are not sure about your doctor being a high-volume one, you can go for one who masters them.

Mac. Some good advice here, Believe me when I say I feel your pain as I too know, surgery’s are not fun and are rough on our bodies and our minds. It’s just a lot to take in and deal with Getting a 2nd option is a good idea if you are able. Stay strong bud!
