Prepping for Implant Day

Postby 45acp1911 » Fri Apr 30, 2021 1:23 pm

Greetings honored members of this fine group. I'll be getting my AMS on 17 May and seeking counsel on what activities/supplements should I commence in preparing for D Day, notwithstanding regular use of Colace.

Congratulations. Be excited--the surgery is life changing.
Best advice is to follow your doctors orders. Each doctor is a little different. I know I followed my doctors orders for no aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood thinning drugs for the week prior. I started washing from my chest to knees with Hibiclens three days prior (do not use on face or eyes) just to help reduce the likelihood of infection. My doctor said I didn't have to, but I could if I desired. There are requirements for not eating after midnight--the usual surgery stuff, but other than that the medical center took care of the rest.

When you go home, take the plastic urinal hospitals use. Urinating in your toilet will be a challenge (whether sitting or standing) and peeing in the urinal or a bottle and pouring into the toilet is a lot easier. Peeing while you shower is another option, once you are cleared to shower.

If you live alone, prepare single-serve containers of soup or stew you can quickly heat up in a microwave. You will not feel like standing in front of a stove for any length of time.

Take stool softeners for a couple weeks before surgery. You don't want to strain your bowels until all your stiches heal.

Rolling out of bed after surgery puts a strain on your torso where the reservoir is. My experience was that my torso was quite a lot more painful than my genitals (though the hurt was limited to only when I was trying to move and laying still was no problem for my torso).

Congrats! As said, it's a life changing surgery for men who suffer from ED.
Best advice is make sure you have ice packs (home made ones or bags of frozen peas) for the first few days. I was sore for quite some time. Some use a vacuum device to keep the penis stretched before implant.
Other than that, relax. It is surgery but once you are healed you'll love it.

All the above. If you are married your wife can handle the food and drinks. If you are alone make at least 3 days of food and drinks ahead of time. 4x4 gauze pads and Bacitracin ointment for wound care and some good medical tape. One well known NY doctor used to have his patients pour a cup of bleach in a bath tub of water and set in it for at least 30 minutes 3 days prior to surgery. I went a bit different for my recent surgery and washed my white underwear with bleach added and dried on high and took 2 pairs out of the hot dryer and put them into plastic zip lock baggies for protection. I showered with Dial anti bacterial soap then washed from belly button to mid thigh with Hibiclens. Then before I put on my bleached underpants I wiped down my genitals and inner thighs with alcohol wipes. The second pair was for the next time I put on underpants. This comes from infections with the modern stuff they use now not killing some of the stuff alcohol and bleach will. But things are a bit improved over when the switch over was done.

Get as healthy as you can and control any medical conditions you have. And still time for VED therapy and the sooner you start the better. Motrin if you can take NSAIDS for swelling. Ice packs can melt and have water that can get into your incision. I bought 3 small bags of dry beans and put then in zip lock bags to keep any germs away. You can wash small white hand towels in bleach also to wrap the bags. The beans have no water to worry about and will not clump like ice or frozen veggies. Stay as flat on your back as you can from the time you wake up after surgery and for the first 3 days. And ask for ice packs in recovery. If you can put a pillow under your butt to raise your genitals to help the swelling. Books to read or shows to binge watch. Or something to fill the 3 days of bed rest. And as I said all the other stuff posted above. These first 3 days are very important. And doctors differ on post op care so follow your doctors instructions.

Good luck with this.
