Living with Pump Bulb pointing Up

Postby LookingUp » Thu Apr 01, 2021 10:00 am

Morning Gents. 5 weeks out of surgery. Small scrotum, pump is located front, midline, bulb at the top, pointing to shaft, Deflate button facing to my rear. Best pump movements while in 104 degree hot tub. I can pull/stretch sack skin every direction. Can move the pump around all the available space. Left/Right/somewhat forward. Pump returns to the bulb pointing to shaft position. Bulb up, Deflate button facing my rear. can't get the pump to stay bulb down, towards bottom of sack.

Issue: I have tissue covering the deflate button area, all the way to the tubes. When I rotate the bulb sideways, the Deflate button is right under my horizontal incision (oriented to the rear). I can mash through this tissue to access the Button but is more than a bit sore. I've tried to push/pull/rotate/flip forward the pump to "slide or pry" the tissue off of the D Button. No luck so far. My guidelines call for moving the pump around 3 to 4 times a day for 6 months. Really? Isn't the scrotum damage repaired way before 6 months? I think the tissue will harden (scar tissue) over the D button and I press on with life. No pain with anything I do. Just some soreness leftover on left side inguinal canal area where the reservoir was shoved through.

Any ideas to try? How to flip the pump and have the Deflate button facing front? Anyone experienced with this? Can I live longterm with Bulb Up and tissue covering the D Button, longterm? Or am I looking towards a revision? What does real life experience say?

Couple more weeks until activation. I can focus on length, hardness and .....

It sounds like it got inverted in the "POCKET" that the surgeon creates in the scrotum to keep the pump separated from the testicles. There's already a natural division between the left and right side, called a septum, that keeps each testicle separated. As I understand it, it is common for surgeons to do a blunt dissection of the tissues with their finger to create a pocket for the pump.

Did the doctor explain why it appears that the pump is upside down? I believe that if the pocket method was employed by your surgeon as I think it was by mine, over time the pocket will likely stretch out or even open up, leaving the pump and bulb free-hanging. My pump was firmly in the left side of my scrotum early on after surgery and remained there for months until one day I realized that it was now hanging almost perfectly in the middle, a bit lower than it used to. It wasn't until sometime around that time that I no longer got the frequent "KITN" (kicked in the nuts) pain from the pump overcrowding my much larger testicle on the left.

Ask your doctor if he might have "created a pocket" in the scrotal tissues for the pump placement and why it feels like the pump is inverted, and ask if he feels it will right itself in time. I believe it probably will based on my experience.

The pump bulb should NOT be pointing up toward your shaft. What this indicates to me is that your tubing is too long, causing the bulb to curl back up. Until you have your appointment, I suggest that you take daily hot baths and while in the bath, gently but firmly tug the bulb down in the correct (inverted from how it is now) position and hold for a 10 count, then wait a minute or two and do it again. Repeat this process about 10 times with each bath. If this doesn't fix the problem, your surgeon will probably need to do a revision. Good luck!

Thanks for your advice. I've been Hot Tub soaking at least twice a day. Some days 4 times. Told to tug, not pull. Can't tug it forward (bulb down) Just sideways, L and R. I can feel the tubes where they end in the pump. Not back to the cylinders. I'm more concerned with the tissue covering the Deflate button. Sideways allows enough access to the Deflate Button. Waiting for my april 14th appointment for some answers.

Maybe pulling it forward to invert it isn't the answer. Maybe it flips upside-down from the back. Are the tubes running across the front side of the pump or the back? If they're running across the front, it has flipped up under and inverted so tugging it to the back would be in order to right it.

My deflate button faces the back of my scrotum (it used to face the right testicle while sharing the space with the left one).
