Arthritis

Postby truckrglenn » Thu Apr 01, 2021 3:02 am

It seems that I am developing arthritis in both of my hands, especially in my thumbs. I can't fully pump up my implant without starting and stopping, then starting again after a few minutes.

I've been thinking about how to adapt some channel locks or another type of tool to help me squeeze the pump.

Anyone else having trouble with arthritis?

There was an earlier post on this. Your AMS DVD shows different ways to work the pump. Using 2 hands or fingers from both hands or the way I do it with using the fingers of my strong hand and the base or pad of the thumb which is part of the palm to work the pump. I cannot really get full pumps this way but you can pump quicker. It just takes more pumps.

I recommend you to try to use Curowhite curcumin. It's quite good for arthritis.

If things don't get better and your condition just get worse over time, maybe the best should be to replace your inflatable for a semi-rigid.

Arthritis stinks! I use both hands when inflating. Place both index fingers under the pump at the middle knuckle, fingers bent then use both thumbs to squeeze the bulb.
The future may hold a better way. Development of an implant that activates via a smart phone app or key fob is in progress.

I use the fingers from one hand to hold the tubes coming out of the top of the pump. With my dominant hand, I squeeze for a while between my index finger and thumb. When it gets harder, I switch to using the tips of my index and middle fingers against the knuckle at the base of my thumb. Don't know if that will help for you, but it allows me to put more pressure on.

I've also tried putting the pump on a counter and pushing down with the heel of my hand. It works, but doesn't yet seem necessary for me.

It's much easier to pump when the bulb is warm, so I often cycle up while sitting in the hot tub. Hot showers and heating pads can help though not as much as a hot water bath/tub.

Good luck finding the things that work best for you.

truckrglenn, have you seen a rheumatologist? Arthritis will cause permanent joint damage if left untreated.

Thanks for the advice. I'll replay the DVD when I get home this weekend. I've been meaning to talk with my Dr but keep forgetting.
