If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any at all

Postby jersey58 » Thu Mar 25, 2021 11:30 am

After 25+ years of ED, I was scheduled with Dr. Kramer in late March 2020. A couple of weeks before, my insurance denied the claim and Covid broke out, surgery canceled. After almost a year of waiting and research, I decided to move to Dr Eid and pay for the surgery out-of-pocket. I was scheduled for today, 3/25 , paid the tab, all systems go until I got the results of my Covid test which was positive. Ughhhh. I have zero symptoms and feel fine, work from home, my wife is with me all the time and she is testing negative. Have to wait at least 21 days and have a negative Covid test 5 days before they will schedule. Will probably push this out a couple of months. Hopefully the third time is a charm.

Well that sucks. Hope your Covid 19 symptoms are mild. Since you have to push your surgery back, if I were you, and this is just my thinking, I would spend those weeks working to get insurance approval. Dr. Eid has a staff, and they are accustomed to fighting it out with insurance companies, changing codes etc., to get this covered. I have noticed that it is common for them to deny, in the hopes you will just go away. Keep pushing and make them give you the name of one of the advocates/liaisons to work for you as well. There is a systems in place to fight back, and maybe go to arbitration, they just don't want you to know about it. Good luck, hang in there.

Sorry to hear that. I know it is upsetting, but the 3rd time is a charm!
I was booked with Kramer in July 2020. The insurance rejected it 2 days before the surgery. I got really disappointed, and didn't know what to do at that time. Don't worry. It is going to happen, and you will feel good. Take good care of yourself to recover quickly!

I have to have the test April 9th for a April 13th surgery. I have had my first vaccine shot. My fear is also a false positive test results. They do happen and there is no consideration if you have symptoms or not. Covid sucks even if you don't have it. From my understanding your wife will have an even longer wait for her covid test. Sorry for your bad luck. I hope you have used up all the bad luck and nothing but good luck going forward.

DO FOLLOW SteveSW's advice. "It is the squeaky wheel that gets the grease." If coverage is genuinely excluded, ask for an exception (which are usually given on a case-by-case basis). Most insurance companies will cover "restoration of a lost bodily function" where they would not pay for any form of "sexual enhancement". Contest their definitions, and even get advice from a lawyer who specializes in contested insurance claims (you don't have to tell your insurance company that you are getting this advice or threaten to sue, but knowing your options is a great advantage to you in negotiating for coverage or an exception).

Good luck. Fight the good fight.

Eid tried to get it approved but it is excluded by my plan as dictated by my employer. I may have them take another run at it since I have time. Either way, will be happy when I am finally bionic.

Jersey58,
Have you been diagnosed with Peyronie's Disease? If so, the doctor coding for correction of PD makes it medically needed, and not to correct sexual function. Medical/physical issues tend to be approved a little more often. Just a thought.

Yes, have Peyronie's diagnosis. I think Kramer tried to appeal based on Peyronie's but will ask Eid's office if they can take another sot using that as reason for procedure.

PD was the only diagnosis that my employer's policy has a firm exception for, stating that an IPP is the gold standard for resolving and correcting PD's organic injury and deformity.
